Talking car will not idel at all.

hi

i have an 87 t2 and i cant get it to idel. I just replaced all the hoses with brand new speical hose made for it and so i think im leaking air between the uper intake mainifold and the lower intake mainifold if i where to use gasket sealer between them would this work or would i harm my engine and could i retake it off at a later date? also do you guys have any good methods for finding vacuum leaks?

Go buy some B12 carbon cleaner. You can get it cheap from any auto parts store. Spray the cleaner around any intake joints on the engine and see if it stalls. If it does, there's your leak. Be careful with this stuff because it's flammable.

well, what he means is with the car running ( have someone old the gas steady i guess)

u spray it around the engine, near vac hoses and such,

if theres a leak it will suck it in and the rpm will go up or down when this happens, then u know theres a leak there.

we could try it sometimes this week or somthing

I had a problem with idling as well. When the AC was on and my car was at stand still, the engine rev would drop all the way down when the condenser kicked in and just stall the engine. All the hoses checked out though.

Took it to a workshop, adjusted the BAC and put in more AC gas. Unfortunately, my mechanic fiddled with more than that so now my idle is really not smooth - the rev jumps up and down at idle when AC is on... but at least it doesnt stall no more.

Could this be your problem?
