Car has trouble accelerating up hills

Hi, im new to the forum and am having trouble with the rx7 i just bought. i have no knowledge on cars or rotary engines. its an 88 NA. basically my car doesnt accelerate past 2000rpms going up hill. usually its when im in 5th gear, but i think it happens in whatever gear im in, im just usually in 5th when going up a hill on the highway. if you can help me figure out whats wrong i would be very greatful.

I think the issue is you're just in too high a gear for the hill.. down shift to 4th or even 3rd. Fifth gear @ 2000 rpm and climbing a hill isn't very ideal. Chances are you're putting more load on the motor than you would be at a lower gear.
If you had a lsx, then I could possibly see 5th gear @ 2k going up hill. Lol.

if the RPM shoot up with the clutch engaged and there's no corresponding change in speed, then it sounds like it may be a worn out clutch. only driving for 3 days ... well, yeah, probably dead/dying clutch.

do you smell anything while driving or just after you park - like something burning?
