best rebuild kit???

Hello everyone... well to start off i have a 88 rx7 t2. Bought from my bro and he had it rebuild by bernard at rpm unlimited.. brought it home and found low compression on rear rotor...found out he uses old/used seals... well to get to the point. Im gonna be do rebuild myself and was wondering if anyone had advise on what seals are the best for a t2 rx7?? Or most reliable

welcome to the board.

in terms of complete kits, your choices are somewhat limited. if you choose to piece together your own "kit", then you have a few more options. "best" will totally depend on what characteristics you seek for your engine.

Everything OEM except apex seals, go with ALS or RA Classics.

companies? well, for years i bought all my rebuild parts from Mazdatrix. however, in recent rebuilds (within the last 3 years or so) i've also bought parts from Pineapple, Atkins and Goopy as i saw fit. i'm sure there are probably others out there, too.

about the ONLY parts one can wantonly recommend for a rebuild are the springs for the seals. if you're not going to simply replace everything, then you're going to have to wait until you disassemble the engine, clean and measure everything. only then can you know for sure what you need and don't need.

for your apex seal question, it really comes down to a matter of choice. i know some people will make recommendations to you, but i don't know if i feel comfortable doing so. if you want, i could give you insights as to what i would do for myself, but that's as far as i'll go. most of the seals have specific attributes that make them desirable to some and make others want to avoid them. the bottomline is no seal gives you EVERYTHING. the OEM seals are probably closest to that goal. you really need to read about them yourself and form your own conclusions.

whether you blow the engine or not from increased boost lends itself more to your supporting parts and tune than it does to the engine itself.
