how hard is it to swap an auto with a manual tranny? found a nice rx7 its automatic. planning on buying a complete turbo swap with 5 sped tranny. how hard would it be to switch the two?

 

My RX-7 was an auto and I swapped it to a 5 speed a few years ago. Its hard to answer your question as to how hard it was. For me, it wasn't hard. I had the right tools and I was an aircraft mechanic for 9 years so I was comfortable doing it. If you don't have the right tools then it could be harder. You didn't mention in your post what year car you are talking about but I'm assuming by your picture that its a 2nd generation RX-7. Go to the 2nd Gen section of this web site. There is an instruction thread saved in the archives. It pretty much list all the parts you need and all the tools you'll need.

Also, you can go to www.rotaryresurrection.com and select the 2nd gen section. Then, click the TECH tab at the top right. Scroll down until you see the article for automatic to 5 speed conversion.
