the air pump blows cool air into the cats so they don't get extremely hot and fail. Thats why the label says Do Not Remove. If you have an aftermarket exhaust with not cats like a Racing Beat exhaust, you won't need the pump and you can remove it.

The hose you are talking about goes from the air pump to a silencer somewhere under the front headlight. It allows the pump to take in air and it keeps the pump quiet. I guess its pretty loud, but I never heard an un-silenced one so I don't know.

Do not remove it if you still have the stock catalytic converters.

Hey,
You can remove it, I removed mine when installed a cold air intake. The air pump is not to cool the cat down, it is to help heat up the catalyst in the converter to help burn off fuel, carbon, and etc... I think the reason behind "do not remove", is because it is a emissions part. It is illegal to drive street legal cars with no or little emissions control and emission parts. The pre-silencer does what is says, the ACV dumps any extra air in the system threw a tube into the pre-silencer to quiet the air down. I removed the pre-silencer and it was pretty loud ! I would take the pump off, but to makesure to replace you exhaust system in the future. The only thing that could happen is that your cats could become clogged over time and cause back pressure on your engine also, thats if they aren't old already. I would just take out the cat and put a straight pipe in for now. It will help with you preformance, because with a turbo you don't want any back pressure . Project 84 is right for the money Racing Beat is the way to go.

That is misleading. The airpump supplies air to the acv which directs the air to the exaust ports. On occasion, the split air pipe will direct airpump air to the catalytic converter. That amount of air is anemic compared to the air sent to the exaust ports (prior to the 02 sensor).
