air fuel gauge with a carby?

i was wondering how the hell do you use the air fuel gauge on a carb setup? i read the intructions and it says to run it to the ECU, well i dont have an ECU. but im sure it can be done, just need the how to. i have the oxygen sensor that im going to thread into my downpipe, would i run the wire straight to the gauge? would it still read the same? any input would be helpful

get a voltage gauge that goes from 0-4v or so and hook it to the o2
0 is rich, and 4 would be really lean

Does this really work?!! What about a an amp gauge? I have a really cool one I haven't been able to use. It's not the shunt type it's an inline type.

Nope has to be voltage.

As far as I understand it, yes you can run the sensor wire straight to the AFR gauge.

Normally you would tap into the line that runs to the ECU but the ECU is just listening to that wire. The ECU is not supplying any type of bias voltage or current.

The sensor generates it's own voltage and the gauge just measures it. That's why a simple voltmeter also works.

Please recognize that a normal narrow band oxygen sensor does not reliably tell you how rich or how lean you are running. It is very accurate at the switchover from rich to lean but very inaccurate everywhere else. It can put you in the ballpark for a carb setup but to really dial it in you will need a 5 wire wide band oxygen sensor setup.

Need a wideband oxygen sensor controller. They're not a simple setup like a "standard" oxygen sensor.
