I just picked up this 86 and it has two New charlie brown cats on it with cheap muffler shop pipe. Po said it had no power and thought rotor was out. I atf the motor and unhooked exaust and ran to remove atf . hooked up exaust and ran it and both cats became red hot. checked plugs and rear two smelled of gas. dropped exaust ,put timing light on plug wires and rear two no light ,changed plug wires , then only rear leading plug wire no light, changed leading rear plug and now have light on all wires . reatached exaust again and cats again got red hot at idle ! I think these cats are junk and want to remove them. I have new RB down pipe an presilencer,and y pipe. but am afraid of burning up new RB presilencer if there is a heat problem. Am i bieng paranoid ?sould i just go ahead and put on my racing beat stuff. or am i correct in this stuff is just junk and restricting the exaust?
