Advice on what to do

Hey all, I recently got my first RX7 :-D It's stock 88 RX7 GTU N/A. Currently has a little over 175,000 miles on it. So far the only issue I have had with it is I need to replace the clutch.

I want to buff it up a bit but not quite sure where to start. A lot of what I have read says exhaust and intake, but what about after that? This car is my usual car I drive on a regular basis so don't want to over do it and have bad drive-ability.

My next questions is how much for upgrades/maintenance can I do myself. I have a basic working knowledge of how everything works, but no real experiance in working with cars, but that's all part of the reason I got this car was to work on something worth working on and hopefully learning somethings in the process. Suffice it to say mazda is replacing the clutch.

Thanks for the advice

ps One thing I forgot to ask

I'm debating whether or not to build up the exhaust and intake, then rebuild and port motor. Or do the motor first. My main reason for motor first is the engine is the original in it, 175k miles, still runs strong but smokes pretty good and stinks of gas. Not worried about exhaust issues being in minnesota however I want to be sure the engine will continue working in the long run. So rebuild now, port later?

Well with 175k on the motor get ready to rebuild, this is about the average life span of an n/a. So get ready for this, a good cheap place to go for the rebuild and the street port is kevin landers, his rebuilds start at a thousand,+200 for the port job, this is better than you will find anywere else, Then you need to go to racing beat, and get you a full exhaust, this will give you loads of power and sound really well, one word of advice is that a n/a fc is really loud. Then just look for links or advice in the second gen forum on intakes for i don't kknow to much on n/a's
