Help! I just purchased a 91 Convertible RX7. It is a little rough but appears to run ok. When I first start it there is no smoke at all...waaahooo. When I drive it the engine appears strong, the temperature gauge goes about half way after driving for a few minutes. Then the ADD COOLANT buzzer starts buzzing intermittantly. Any idea why? I checked and it has coolant in the radiator and the overflow reservoir. I cannot find any leaks. Is it possible a thermostat is stuck? Is the buzzer sensor linked to actual water level or pressure or is it linked to temperature? Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

 

if you look at the center radiator you'll see what looks like a bolt with a wire coming out of it, that is your coolant level sensor. You didn't say whether your bottle is filled properly. If it is, then you might have air trapped in the system and need to bleed the system. i had a similar problem but couldn't bleed the system because the bleeder screw was stripped(stupid plastic) so i just used a piece of wire and jumped the connector directly to ground. If you do this make sure you check your coolant level often cause you will have no warning light or buzzer.

 

Yes he did.
Try running the engine for about 10-15 mintues with the radiator cap off to bleed out any air from the system. Add coolant as necessary.

also check the wire to see if maybe it's intermitantly grounding due to loose connection or freyed ends this could set it off.

Check the whole coolant system, maybe the sensor is bad.
