You don't have to remove the engine, just the transmission.

Hey, I think I'll chime in here as well. I have the 9.5# flywheel with the ACT Heavy Duty clutch set on my '89T2. It is awesome!!! The clutch it replaced wasn't slipping, but I hated the way it felt. It was a CFDF setup that came with the car. Never liked it's feel. But once this setup was in, my car felt like it lost a couple hundred pounds when accelerating in the higher RPM band. It made my car feel more like a sports car. Quick revving up and down. Drivability? Very good. It DOES NOT stall out or have weird idle issues. It is easy to drive in traffic. Even sitting at a light on a sharp incline (many of these in downtown Seattle) it's easy to take off from a dead standstill. It just take a little bit to get used to. After this you'll wonder why other don't do it.

These are just my opinions however. I'm don't drag race, but do a lot of autocrossing and driving on twisty roads. A flywheel this light is not suited for drag racing. But if you like driving where you need to shift a lot then you'll love it.
