89 turbo ll timing issue

I just want to see if anyone has had this issue, i recently purchased my rx7 little over a month ago, so im just going through it making sure things are in order.

So first my issue, im trying to figure out a low idle issue by checking the timing on the car, ive got a haynes guide to follow by, and from what its telling me is how to reset the cas to factory spec, so i did making sure the gear did not move while installing, so after that i checked the timing with my light, and the yellow mark does not line up, its a bit to the right of the stem, and when i try to get the yellow mark to line up, i have to turn the cas all the way to the advanced side.

I did everything by the book and cannt think why this would be, the car was at normal temp while i was doing this, so it was never cold while i was checking the timing, im just checking to see if there is anything ive missed, i checked the timing before i removed the cas the first time and noticed it had been set slightly on the retard side, so now its on the advanced and has a better idle now but no matter how low i set my idle speed control it will not go lower than 900rpm.

No one has ever had this issues before with there timing? right now ive got the cas slight set to the advanced side to get a better idle, but now it sounds like it might have a slight miss fire at idle, but it does not misfire while im driving it, it drives very smooth.

If I hear nothing I may just take it in to mazdatrix or lucky 7 to see what there take is on this issue.

Also I forgot to mention, just to get the idle down ive had to screw in my idle air control valve almost all the way down just to get it to around 900 rpm, or else if I start unscrewing it the idle will go up a little over 1000rpm, and that was with the cas adjusted right in the middle. Before when the car was warm the idle would sometimes sit around 300-200 rpm and would bog a bit on take offs from a stop position, like is if it had horrible turbo lag, but my motor is pretty much stock, besides a blitz bov and the air pump that was all removed by previous owner.

I will try to see if maybe the tps might have something to do with it, or else I will just have someone look at it just in case im missing something.

Im having problems getting my newly swapped engine to idle without just shutting off so I was researching this today and I'm pretty sure I read that the mark will actually appear 5 degrees to the right when checking it with a timing light. I can't find the link again sorry.

I had a bigger issue because my pulley didn't have the marking on it so I had to find out how to make the mark myself. When I added it and finally tested it my marking was slightly to the right when checking with the timing light. I adjusted the CAS back and forth through the range and found that the best position was where it was originally and where the mark was slightly to the right

I went with an aftermarket ecu years ago but, If I remember correctly there is a connector you need to jump to lock the timing. Check your book again it should point you in the right direction. I'm guessing passenger side strut tower.
