'79 Rx7 Back-Fire

When I first got my Rx7, it had a terrible back-fire. After being at the mechanics for a while, and getting the carb tuned properly, it still has a back-fire, but not as bad before. The second you put the pedal to the metal, and let off the gas it back fires, and even when just shifting up. Is there a way to fix this problem?

This question belongs in the 1st gen section, not general rotary stuff.

It sounds like you either have the incorrect carb/jets, or the carb itself was poorly adjusted though. Maybe your timing is out of wack? I don't know jack about carbs however, so you're more likely to find a good answer in the 1st gen section.

the thermal reactor cars are kind of infamous for that, you might look at the Air Control Valve, and make sure its working correctly
