ON 4 port 13b in AMC Pacer problem

Hi All,
Just finished installing engine from mid-late '70's Cosmo in '77 lemon yellow Pacer, just because. The issue I'm having is it WIIL NOT start cold without manually priming the carb, with fuel or better still a shot of quick start. Second part of problem is that it will run fine at low rpm's until you put a load on it, at which point it dies like the float bowls have emptied, which they haven't. I've plugged all piping on intake and carb that aren't being used, but still feels like a vacuum leak. I have a 45 Weber sidedraft to put on but I can't find a manifold for the 4 port, still looking. I'm using a distributor from an '82 RX7, going to try adding a spare MSD box on the leading to see if that helps. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Seann

I think you are right that it's probably running lean, but maybe it's the accelerator pump. Have you removed the filter and verified that you get a shot of fuel when pumping the accelerator? Also, Have you sprayed quick start around the carb and manifold to see if the idle changes to verify no intake leak?
