2nd Gen Engine Trouble

2nd Gen Engine Trouble
89 GXL N/A

Engine has run the same since I have owned it which has been about a year.

Recently Replaced the TPS.

The Engine has smoked are start since I've owned it. Once the engine gets good an warm it stops smoking.

I half to put a quart of oil in about once every 2 months.

The car over the last 3 months smells like its burning extra rich and seems to be consuming more gas than usual. The car has only flooded on me twice since I've owned it. I've check the coolant level often and it looks good. The Engine has 154,000 miles on it. Its do for a rebuild. Any ideas as to why it maybe running rich and what I should do to fix it.

Are you getting a check engine light? That should tell you about things like the o2 & coolant temp sensors.

Good clean air filter? Good plugs & wires? Smell the engine bay for fuel leaks and fix any you find before driving. You don't want an engine fire.

Enough info. back & forth can usually get it figured. Oh, a search for "bad gas mileage" or something similar should yield lots of stuff to chew on.

needing to add a little oil is normal since it injects into the chamber. have you checked to make sure the pulsation damper isn't leaking? you could think it was rich but be smelling the gas dripping onto the block. just a thought. some smoke at startup is a rotary's tendency. as heffboost said, new plugs and wires etc. make sure you are firing off the mixture.
