13BT wont idle

ive got a 13B turbo from a series 5 and not exactly sure why its not idling right, it worked a few days back and now wont idle, revs freely. but stalls if trying to idle. state of engine is not known but waste gate is little rusty from what i can see, back fired heaps last time i turned it on, didnt have it on for long last time only idling till it warm, is there anything major or common im meant to look for, cus im new to rotorys this is my first one. so yeah what are a couple of things making the car be unable to idle?

welcome to the forum.

my first thought is it might be a vacuum leak. however, it could be something else so what is your full setup (car, ECU, ignition, etc.)?

for exhaust leaks, i usually get on the floor and let someone else tap the accelerator pedal, then go up and down the length of the system until i find it . unless your whole system is full of leaks, you can usually isolate the leaky section by ear. look at all the flanges for serious rust spots.
