13B mating help.

Following on from a previous post I had, I have a 13B turbo engine from a '92 rx and an injection 13B from a '88 rx.

I've been all day chopping the car I'm trying to fit it to and there are one or 2 questions I have.

Since both engines were previously injected and I want to fit a carb, what do I do with the centre iron? Will I just plug the 2 holes where the injectors were fitted and flush the inside or will I have to get one for a carb'd engine?

Also, as was confirmed in my last post, I plan on using the non-turbo engine with the turbo centre irons to make it a 4 port engine but for the sumps, the N/A sump is much deeper then the tubo one but this is causing clearance issues for me. Could I use the shorter pickup pipe from the turbo engine and modify the sump where it's colliding without any problems? I was looking at dry sumping it but its too expensive for me.

I think thats all my problems at the moment, (well ones that can be helped!!) but any help will be appreciated.

Cheers
Dan

You can buy the block off for the injector holes from Mazdatrix.

use whichever intermediate housing you wish. methods for blocking the injector ports are up to you. as suggested above, there are pre-made ones available. for me, i used two American dimes with some clear silicone. i don't know what Irish coins are similar in size, but it'll work just fine.

for the oil pan question, it will probably be a bit more tricky because i don't know the shape of your Opel's subframe. use whichever pick-up tube will give you the needed clearance for mounting and still maintain good, consistent oil supply to the pump. the important part is that it is position in a spot where oil is guaranteed to pool and offers some resistance to slosh.

if worse comes to worst, you can check in the Other Rotary section as i'm sure enough people have put rotaries in enough Toyotas, Datsuns, Ford and other chassis' that someone surely will have some good, experienced advice for you. if you can't find any useful threads, then you can always start one there.

hope this helps.

Cool, thanks for the help lads.

The cross member runs right under the middle of the engine so to fit it with the original sump would mean the engine would be sitting way too high.

I think I will make modify the sump with a bit of a larger catchment area behind the cross member. Then I will modify the pickup pipe so that it is sank into the oil.

Thanks again lads, and must order a set of them plugs.

I'm sure I will be along in the near future with more simple questions!

Cheers
Dan.
