13B Engine Build Quality Check
Hi all,
I am wanting to buy an early 13B BP engine. I have found one but I am unsure about the quality of the rotors, housings ETC..
I have some photos of the build that the seller has sent. Can anyone provide me with some feedback.

welcome to the board.
in my very humble opinion, nothing readily jumps out at me. however, the things that really matter (the clearances and such) would not be something one could confirm or condemn in a photo anyway, so any critique i might have is sort of silly by comparison. that said, i suppose you could ask the seller for compression numbers if you are serious about buying from him, but obviously i wouldn't know his setup/situation.

Old [Sch|F]ool
I'm not thrilled with the solid corner seals, they are more likely to break than the OE ones because they have two stress risers built in to them, but like he said, the important thing is the clearances that you can't see in photos.
I also take the lack of pictures of the ports as a red flag. They might be horribly shaped, or opened up into the oil seal track, or something, and the pics don't show those two critical things. Of the ones I do see, I don't like the lack of a "landing zone" for the side seals on the closing edge. Actually I don't like the closing edge at all, but that's my preference for porting. I'm also suspect of a relieved bridge with small apex corner pieces, but maybe it might work. Of note is that when I build an engine I expect it to go 50-60,000 miles before it has to come apart again for any reason.
Another thing I'm not thrilled with are the 9 pin rotor gears. Those have massively higher stationary gear loadings over 8000rpm than the later 12 pin gears. You NEED to have the rotors modified with a way to keep the rotor gears from walking out, and hardened stationary gears, if you are using these at high RPM. Maybe they are, but this isn't something you can see in photos either.
