12A Stalling Problem

Hello!

A friend of mine has a 1985 RX-7 GS with a 12A engine, and its having some problems. The car always starts fine and drives okay, but not long after it reaches operating temperature it stalls out. It doesn't matter if you are idleing or moving it just bogs down and stalls. Its almost as if it stops getting gas, air, or spark. Immediately after it stalls it will not restart. It will crank and crank and crank, but wont even really sputter or try to start.

If you wait a while (20 minutes or so) it will usually fire right back up again and start driving until it does this again. The fuel pump has been changed since the problem started, but didn't seem to have any effect.

Does any one have any idea what this problem could be, or how to diagnose it?

Thanks in Advance!

It could be that compression is so low that it cant run after its hot, since the compression on rotaries go down a little when they get warm

Could be a bad igniter too. They can have an intermittent failure where they work ok cold, and stop when they get warm.

I know the compression is good, so I don't think its that, but the igniter sounds idea sounds plausible. I'll check it out!

Thanks guys!

Does it splutter or just die instantly when it stops?

Splutter = fuel

DEAD = electrical
