12a rebuild.

are there any special tools needed to take apart and rebuild a 12a ? I have done many other cars but this would be my first rotary.

you'll need something to help crack the main pulley bolt (19 mm) and i believe the flywheel is 52 mm, both will require you to pull 300 ft-lbs.

other than that, eat a hearty breakfast and you should be able to pull all the tension bolts with a 17mm and standard 3/8 drive ratchet handle.

for reassembly, the only other thing that i can think of would be the pilot bearing and if yours is in good shape, then it's NOT a necessity ... just a good idea while the motor is apart and out of the car.

a question I have had in my mind about the rebuild is how to time the rotors 180 of each other. Does the eccentric shaft and rotors have a mark on them? Seems like they could go anywhere you wanted them to go in the housing, how do you make sure they are in the right spot? Probably have to do my motor soon, so thanks.

No, they will clock themselves on the gears. They will only fit one way and still turn.
