You can see that the nut has plenty of clearance with the chassis, you just need to cut down the threads. (might I suggest using Loctite)

Taking apart the interior to get to the gas strut Hatch brackets I decided to unbolt everything and use a box wrench to break loose the ball on the hatch no need to pry it off the gas strut since it will be replaced.

I can see there is no way of removing the bracket without getting rid of the rivet head.

Drilled out the rivet head with a ½” bit just enough to pop it out.

Used a Sharpie and cut off wheel to cut down the thread bolt so it fits back on the car. (almost looks like JP3’s bracket)
