datalogit on laptop with serial->USB
My laptop doesn't have a serial port so I am trying to use a serial to USB adaptor. I cannot get it to work! I install the FC-Data program then every time I plug in the USB it asks to load a driver. The CD doesn't have a driver on it that I have found though. Has anybody made the datalogit work through USB? How dod you do it?
thanks
thanks
Put in the OS CD when it asks for a driver. If it can't find it, you may one to browse a little bit through the "find drivers" dialog while looking at the CD to see if you might stumble over it.
Also, if the adapter came with any software, now would be a time to try that disk!

I got an email back from Glen last night saying that a floppy disk with the driver should have been included with the Datalogit. I just have the CD and have searched it but no driver is on it. Now I just need to get the driver, which I haven't been able to find on the datalogit web sites yet. Hopefully he will email them to me
thanks

I had the same problem.
Mine's working though now. Funny because I installed it for a business use and it didn't appear to work.
When my datalogit came in the other day I hooked up the cable to my PC laptop (Win XP) to see if it would attempt to reinstall. It didn't but when I checked it XP said it was fine. I tested the serial connection and it worked (auto assigned COM 4 on mine).
BTW : The world would be a much better place had it gone Apple instead. But I have to have work to support my car so I'm a lemming now

The USB driver is available for download at the datalogit Yahoo group, You need to be a member to access it, and membership is by invite only. Glen should have invited you when you registered the unit.

I got it from the datalogit group and everything works now. I am happy
Just took me an hour to get the USB->serial to assign to something lower then COM5, had to disable the ir com port to free up COM4. thanks.

I'm new to the datalogit. Wondering where to find FAQs on the product. Such as how it plugs into the PFC, datalogging capabilities, outputs are plots, txt files, ....
Please lead me in the right direction. Thanks

Read up on it here - http://www.fc-datalogit.co.nz/ - then send an email to the address listed on that site to get on the basic mailing list. Once you buy one you will be invited to the FD specific Datalogit group.
