Ok. I made my intake out of K&N's and drove around awhile. When I came back I realized the filters fell off and weren't tightened enough. I used the stock hoses and had 3 crankcases. Only one crankcase was left on there so what can I do to keep them really tight and insure they don't fall off. Luckily it wasn't raining.

 

dude, be very carefull! i had two k&ns and the second turbo intake was wieghed down on the air pump. the day my air pump went out( very common with just putting a new cone filter on becuase the intake air charge is too hot for the pump to run well-mazda1996) the pump got hot, put just a tiny hole in that rubber ribbed intake tube and...voila...a piece of dirt must have knicked my coolant o ring in the chamber because im burning coolant now, headed for a rebuild!. next step, go to auto zone bc they always stock these polished intake pipes for civics. they r 3 inches and will plug up your second turbo inlet. 39.95 and it looks great. check it out, it takes some fitting but as all of us fd owners are technically inclined, youll figure it out. its gonna look a hell of alot better too.

 

I find it hard to believe that a piece of dust would enter through your intake and take out a coolant seal? I don't see how thats possible. Maybe take out an apex seal, or a turbo turbine, but not a coolant seal. Its a rubber o-ring bolted between two plates, and there shouldn't be a way for dirt to tear it. Its probably just a coincidence.

 

So any other ideas? Maybe I need to buy some more fasteners.

The small what? Are you talking about clamps? I think you're using the wrong terminology, because 'crankcase' usually means the area that house's the engine's crankshaft.

Oooooohhhhhh.... ok.... you're talking about crankcase FILTERS. Big difference.

I've never done this mod, but maybe you should go buy some different clamps, the kind that you can tighten with a screwdriver. That way, you should be able to tighten it as much as you want.

 

The filters came with them. By the way I went up at 9:30 and found that I have to put the filters inside the hose, instead of the filters outside. This seems to hold them well but they aren't too tight. Do you think I could wrap it up with some electrical tape or duct tape?

60$ went to the local mufler shop and had them bend me a pipe . so 60$ wit the filters .

You could probably wrap it with duct tape to hold it on, but it wouldn't look very good.

Aren't you guys afraid of pulling in all the hot air from the engine with this setup? I'm I missing something?

I got back and both turbo filters were off again. I taped them too so now it is good.

 

Most tape adhesives will go soft and slip in the engine bay heat.

You might want to go to McMaster-Carr and search for:
Constant-Torque Hose Clamps

These will do a good job of staying tight.

 

I think he's talking about those little crankcase filters. Mini cone filters...

I got the 2.5 inch pipes now and am wondering. Where the hose comes off the y-pipe, should i cut the hose where it curves to attach the pipe? Or should I have a shop bend the pipe for me?
