Dose anyone have the PFS Cool Charge Air Induction System? Is it reliable and easy to install? How much was it and can you give me any info on how to get it? Thank you for your time.

 

Too much $$$. The design is ok I guess but for the money get something else. I think PFS wants like $450-500 but you can find it used for a lot cheaper. The bad thing about the intake, if you are still using a airpump better call it toast because the PFS intake doesnt filter that hose. You would probably have to go buy a crankcase filter for that line.

 

Okay how about the Pettit kit?

 

Pettit kit is loud and ugly for the price, but it works.

Ever consider M2 or RX7fashion? Or maybe CWR?

 

M2 is like $500! I need something under $400. Can you give me links to the others?

dont skimp out. save up a little more and buy the M2 intake.

 

Joe- Many in the KC club have made their own intake and they work great. I don't want to waste money on something this simple. Besides, the M2 is just a cf box with K&N's.

You can call up any auto performance place and ask them or just go to www.knfilters.com and see all the universal filters. Just make sure the opening is a 2 1/2 inch. Also buy some crankcase filters for the airpump and such. Probably cost you like 50$ from summit. This is what I have been planning on doing I just havent had the extra cash. Saves 300$ for other parts, thats new injectors right there.

http://www.knfilters.com/vent.htm You will probably want the top ones unless you feel like getting fancy. I think the size is 3/4" but I could be wrong. You will only really need one, depending on how much you want to be filtered. I believe the airpump is the only hose that will suck air in. The EGR might get loud unfiltered so maybe get two filters just incase. If you dont feel like going with a K&N, I know pepboys has a bunch of crankcase filters in their domestic isles.

 

I have 2 RB-0720's used for like under 1k as a "for the mean time ghetto" intake. If anyone wants them I'll sell them cheap.

You can use your old rubber accordian piping yes. The more popular thing for a few FD's i've run across, was to take a campbells soup can, cut both ends open, and paint the entire thing black. then slide the K&N filters on it. They "supposedly" fit perfect, just add some clamps, and you should be good to go.

Dont ask me for the campbells soup part number. . . .

 

7-sins: Wow, I never thought of the air pump issue. It never occurred to me since the stock box took the air from an identical hole at the top of the box but now I realize what you are talking about (the stock box has already filtered the air on the top part of the box due to its bottom-up flow design). Jeez - I wonder what the failure rate of the airpump is from this mod??? If it's a small risk I won't bother to worry about it, but maybe next time I oil the filter I could retrofit a small filter in the box for the airpump. I'd previously thought that most airpumps which had failed did so from taking in heated engine compartment air that the open intakes use - but I may be way off here.

Ryan: I would only recommend the PFS box if you are also getting the PFS intercooler. They are meant to work together with a custom duct. Personally I like the setup for a mildly modified FD like mine (engine wise). The fit and finish is nice, the airbox and intercooler line up with all the stock hoses, you don't need a new (Greddy) intake exbow or custom Y-pipe to intercooler pipes... etc. It is also VERY quiet - as quiet as stock. No mooing, farting, wooshing or weezing involved here. This was important to me but may not be to you or others. You can get the whole setup used for pretty cheap (comparatively)... or even brand new it is less than most medium size setups once you factor in everything you need. I have the PFS i/c and intake. I think it sucks. The combo is very tight in the compartment and makes access to other things even more difficult than it already is. Also, the fit of mine is not the best. Maybe it was not installed/reinstalled correctly??? I am going with custom k&n's until I get the cash to go single. Also....try cleaning/checking the filter on the PFS! It is a real MF! Also, the combo seems to take up alot of room and does not seem real efficient either.
