First Dyno Timing Tuning Runs

Had my first dyno run yesterday in which I started adjusting timing. Was running 12-12.5PSI which are rows P17 and P18. In order to have a safe starting point, I lowered the timing in cells N8-N10 and N16-N20 by 2 degrees for rows P17 and P18.

Run 1 was made with 2 degrees more taken temporarily out of all cells with the FUEL/IGNITION CORRECTION SCREEN. This resulted in drastically reduced power below 3500 rpm compared to the following two runs.

Run 2 was made with 0 degrees on the FUEL/IGNITION CORRECTION SCREEN. This defaults to exactly what was in the map cells. This brought the below 3500 rpm power back up but did not due much for the rest of the rpms.

Run 3 was made with 2 degrees added with the FUEL/IGNITION CORRECTION SCREEN. This gave the most noticeable torque increase.

Looking at the three runs, there are three areas of run consistent torque low spots. (1)between 3200 and 3600 rpm, (2)between 4400 and 5200 rpm, and (3)between 6400 and 7200 rpm. These areas need to be tested with a little more advance compared to the rest of the timing.

From what I read on the single turbo forum about timing and from my dyno test, the mod base map set is very conservative. My last run of a high of 310HP is not impressive but my torque curve is. The dyno runs are attached.

My air flow affecting basic mods are: intake, non-seq turbos, Blitz FMIC, Effini "Y" pipe, Greddy elbo, stock intake ports, ported exhaust, DP, MP, and HKS cat-back.

More advance and testing is to come.

Hey Chuck, thanks for posting this info. I am also non-seq and my graph is looking very similar to yours. With my XS modified ECU at 12 psi (my PowerFC is sitting here in my office :)

I pulled 308rwhp@6300 and 266tq@5300rpms. Our graphs look very similar (which is not all that surprising I guess).

You can look at the graph if you're interested at:

Hopefully you can find some more power in there! :)

Brian,

I actually already had a copy of your dyno run along with some others
to use as a comparison for how well my engine is tuned. Thanks for the reply/support.

After analyzing my runs and timing, I have made some adjustments.
I'll be back on the dyno in a couple of weeks.

I also plan to make another linear O2 test again before then.

chuck, are you still using the latest maps that you posted, or have you made many changes. The increase in horsepower is promising, go to show how painstaking it can be to setup a car prfectly. good luck, keep us posted.

I have been constantly modifying my maps so that now my timing is closer to what some call the stock base maps. The big port single turbo Haltech guys are running around 15 degrees of advance at 15PSI boost!

So right now my timing maps ar only about 50% of what they were.

I believe the biggest problem is lack of fuel in the fuel maps. My current fuel maps are rich by most of the posted maps on the forum but my accurate AFRs are in the mid to high 11's.
