Has anyone done this (cut out the middle) or am I the first?

See how nice I cleaned up all the casting and cut out that hole inbetween the two primary tubes! I think it is awesome but I guess it is only my opinion.

JONSKI is trying to upload a pic of the DBT for me

Thanks JONSKI

No problem. I don't know where that white border came from, it's not in the pic I DL'd from my email.

i would think you'd get uneven air distribution to your front/rear rotor.....that's why i'm keeping that divider, you want the flow that your throttle body split up to maintain itself....

Sorry but it's not split if you look at yours. Even better look at the pic above with it still in. Its a half inch deep. Not only that but you can see that the throtle body doesn't even divide them. look at the oil marks acorss the one thats not cut. See they are not divided from the T-body either.

I rest my case.

If you are worried about things like that then why would you even take out your DB throtle... (because everyone else does). Just because everyone else hasn't done this yet doesn't mean its bad.

You problably wouldn't want to port and polish your manifold/plenum either. That would change the airflow from stock also.

by the way I can give you my opinion of why it has three small holes stock. It so Mazda only has to make one size butterfly. They can use it in several places then. They are the same as the ones in the T-body. It is not a divider. Just there to save Mazda from making a different sized butterfly.

i agree with you now that i've put one in my hand and see what you're saying, but i would be concerned about the gasket not sealing...i suppose it will though, i'll try it and if not, i'll use a spare UIM

You have a spare? Thats nuts. I would polish the hell out of it and then sell it with a core return and keep on making the money... I hope it will yeild some results such as the removal itself does.

What do you think of the top veiw with that center cut away. I think it makes it unique and more costom even though it doesn't do anything but lose a 100th of a lb. and get a little more practice with the dremel.

I dont see the advantage of it, besides spending more time on something you will never see again hehe.

If you enlarged the throttle itself and just eliminated the double throttle and bored it a little then I would say COOL.

I did it to mine back in Sept. 2001, like yours. If it helped or not can only be proven with pre and post dyno testing which were not done.

Your not the only guy that ever had that idea.
Im up to four cores now.
You wanna buy one of my polished manifolds its $150 plus your core

Cool idea opening the intake track. i think your wasting your time though. I doubt your gonna see much improvement but hey thats just my opinion.
I would not have opened the top up like that, then I can rest my sockets there anymore
