What's the exact weight of the shortblock?
How much does a shortblock 89-91 TII engine weigh, without the oil-pan, water-pump, etc. The oil-pump is still on the block, as is the front cover. I need to get my engine shipped off, and FedEx will ship it, as long as it weighs 150 lbs or less.
If the weight is over the limit, then I guess I'll have to have it trucked.
Yes, I did try to search.

i recently had a 13b shipped to me,,and its weight was 225lbs
this was a bare block to,,no mainolds no oil pan omp or anything
so i believe a fully equipt turbo engine would weigh in the 300 range and a fully equipt N/A would be close to 260

Damn.
It looks like I'll have to deal with the hassle of getting the engine trucked.

I can't see them weighing over 200 AT ALL.
but maybe.. I am 6'0 150LB and am NOT very muscular and managed to put a 13b-t shortblock into the back seat of a cavalier alone. it was not easy, but hey, it was done.
there's no way in hell that it's only 150LB though.. and if it is, its gotta be damn close t being more than that.

Its gotta be less than 200 dry, lets add it up,side plates 3 @ ~30 lb each=90 lb, rotors 2 @ ~10 lb each=110 eshaft 1 @ ~15 lb's =125, housings 2@ ~ 10 lbs each = 145 front cover/oil pump/ crap up front probably ~20 lbs thats 165 flywheel ~25lb (or less if aftermarket) =175-190 lbs,.. hmm i guess im stronger then i thought, these are all approx weights from memory, id love to see soemone do it with the real weights ( side plates a a lil less than 30 lbs, like 27 front and rear, and like 22 center, and rotors are a lil more etc)

thoses scales always add a couple punds
I ship engines almost daily. A shotblock will weigh in at 185-190 lb dependig on year and model (the irons and rotors varied in weight slightly). Add 20-30 lb for pallet weight to that. This is most definitely not a UPS item.
I usually get blocks shipped in the eastern US for $75-100. check out www.gorlc.com for a rate quote...you need to know that an engine is class 85 for the quote. Residential delivery extra.

Not to divert from the thread, but how much would an s5 TII Motor, with Manifolds, Turbo etc weigh at?
I'll be transporting mine this weekend and would like to anticipate It's weight.

And be careful if it is a residential, carriers can and will hit you with a liftgate charge at times. Basically anything over 75-100 lbs thats not a dock is open based on tariff to liftgate charges. Some good carriers will wave, just beware
