Mounted the oil cooler, does this look ok?

Mounted the oil cooler, does this look ok?

Well, I decided I need to get this thing working ASAP due to my ever increasing oil leak, so I went and got some hardware to mount the cooler. The pictures are pretty self explanitory. I used two 1/8"x1.5"x6" sections of aluminum angle stock. I used aluminum mainly cause its lighter, and easier to work with. I had to do this at my appartment, and all I had was a hacksaw and a 3/8" drill. Otherwise, it would probably look nicer. Oh well, no matter. No one is really gonna be looking down in there anyway. I really would appreciate some feed back, as Im worried that it might block too much air or something...My electric fan keeps it oh so cold under there anyway, but its nice to have some feedback anyway .

I can see how the coolar is mounted to the brackets, but not how the brackets are mounted to the frame.

Placement looks good though.

Looks pretty good. The stock location for the cooler is actually right bellow the radiator but where its' at should work just fine.

Looks like hes bolted it to the rad side shrouds

Looking good T.J.,
Maybe some rubber sandwiched between the cooler and the brackets you made? To help with vibrations getting to the cooler.

Man wassup? I havent been able to access this board for 4 days?????

Anyway, looks good TJ but for one thing. Air takes the path of least resistance right? So wouldnt it tend to go around the cooler? I'm mainly speaking of when the car is stopped. At speed, you'll prolly have enough airflow. I mounted mine right up against the radiator so my electric fan HAS to pull air through it. You might wanna think of putting a piece of rectangular sheet metal to act as a sort of duct. One on top one on bottom from the cooler to the face of the radiator. Just a thought. Maybe invest in an oil temp gauge so you can monitor it for any problems b4 they roach a motor. Cheap insurance. Even an autozone (Sunpro) cheapie water temp gauge ( I use a mechanical sunpro water temp gauge on my racecar) would work.

That looks like it is going to make running the oil lines more difficult.

As Rx7Carl said, the brackets are bolted straight to the radiator side shrouds.
Maybe some rubber sandwiched between the cooler and the brackets you made? To help with vibrations getting to the cooler.
I thought about that because the stock coolers have foam in there. Its in the future plans.

I honestly thought about that, but I was going for simplicity first. I need it done asap, and it was the best I could do with the tools I had. I plan on changing and improving as time goes on.

Yeah, Ill admit, I could ahve made it easier to run the lines, but I think It can be done. Since Im using -AN fittings, I plan on using either 90* or 45* fittings on the cooler to send the lines down and then through the stock hole on the shrouds. I just have to be creative with the fittings, thats all. Heres another picture that kinda shows what I mean...

Thats good advice to shock mount the cooler. Instead of just rigid mounting. for cracking, rubber washers, even from a garden hose will work, better then nothing. your gonna reinstall the piece of metal that goes over where your cooler is now, right ?. i like how it can be seen from the front of the car too.a good place to mount it.up from
where they can get damaged. i'd like to move mine,,,soon.

Definatly mount it on somthing flexable. the stock mounts are made out of rubber so I assume they have a problem with cracking. Looks good otherwise. And as Mikep28 says, anything is better than that nasty beehive your replacing.

My aftermarket replacement one (same as OEM, but raw aluminium instead of black) is visible from the front, but being tucked so far back it's only visible if you crouch and peer in...

I wonder, though, why not mount your cooler the same way it is in an SE?

Stock SE cooler is raw aluminum, not black.

Perhaps the pictures were taken separately, therefore are not to scale. However, they are all really similar in size.

Well, thats a good point about the stock mounts being rubber...I will definatly get on that.

Also, I didnt look into how the stock -SE cooler was mounted, and I did this real quick and easy. And as Manntis said, you cant see it unless you croutch down and look in. When I took that picture, I was actually laying on my stomach. Its pretty far in there.
