Question about removal of plastic insert in front scoop.

Can someone detail how to remove the right side plastic insert? Looks like there is a hook-type holder but even then it looks pretty secure..

Appreciate the help!

It just knocks right out. No fasteners, just be forceful.

Does this cover really serve a purpose? I removed mine cause a bird flew in there and was starting to smell, but havent put it back yet.

Yeah, it just snaps in and out. It's not a one-time deal.

I think these are just decorative pieces anyway. Don't they vary in size between models/years? Here's a shot of the driver's side from my '95 PEP. I tried to take a picture of what holds these in place, but couldn’t get my small digital camera back in there far enough. Maybe from below with the undercover off?

There are metal clips that hold it in so be sure to keep those. But yea, just knock it out.

If you're talking about the plastic pieces in the radiator scoop section (ie, not the small side scoops for the oil coolers), these do serve an important purpose: they force all of the air to go through the radiator and not escape through the sides. So, these are actually a relatively important part of the cooling system.

If you have any thing but an R-1 or R-2 model then it's in there because you only have one oil cooler (on the drivers side. You can remove it, drill your hole and reinstall it....don't loos the clips and you can put it back in.

I'm confused? If you're talking about the 2nd oil cooler pocket, you can just knock it out. If you're talking about the little ones on the side of the main opening, yes leave those but they are a bit harder to take out.

Don't forget about rain issues and where you locate it. If you're running a tube down to where the 2nd cooler would be, you can just drill holes in the plastic insert which will help keep debris and water out but still get enough air.
