I was reading through the February, 2010 issue of "Car and Driver" while
trapped in the dentist's office. The featured article was entitled
"Lightning Laps". C and D took a bunch of cars to Virginia International
Raceway and put them through their paces. The thing that caught my
attention was that the two fastest cars were clocked at a hair over 157 mph
on the main straight. The other cars, starting with an Audi R8 - at 150 mph
- and continuing down through Porches (including a Carrera S) and BMWs (M3)
were all less than that.

My best top speed in the RXX-7 was 155 mph on the same track and main
straight.

In all honesty, I know that speedometers have some margin of error, and the
cars in the test were clocked with laser guns. However, when compared to
David Lane's GSL-SE at 40 mph, my speedometer was reading 5% slow due to the
17" wheels.

 

I read that same article. 20B in a light weight balanced packageaint to be messed with on the track. I wish car magazines would change things up a little bit and include modified older cars in these test. Sure it would be fair but, it would be a great read.

Since I don't subscribe to C and D, I don't know if they are still doing the Supertuner Shootout. That was kind of what you're talking about.

 

In an effort to stay grounded, I recall with deep humility being passed on that straight by the Kudzu Racing 4-rotor. I was already over 100 mph with nothing holding me back, and he went by me like I had turned the motor off. Of course, that was a pure racing machine, while the Lamborghini, Corvette ZR1 and Audi R8 in the test were street legal.

Yea! When my car is finished, I would love to enter mine in the SCC (Sport Compact Car) Ultimate street car challange.

 

That must be it. If I had only put my foot through the floor, instead of just to it...

 

I believe SCC is no more though I could be wrong.

That's true. I thought I was doing OK, but I didn't think I was doing THAT well. I was holding back, since I didn't have a big brake kit, and I knew my brakes wouldn't slow me down enough for turn one, unless I backed off just after passing the the big tree at the clubhouse.

Sorry George but that 4 rotor car also had a real driver behond the wheel.

You're so mean...also so right. From my standpoint, that just makes my car look better, since it was doing so well, in spite of the amateur behind the wheel. I tried to get Peter Ferrell to take my car around, because I wanted to see what it could do with a "real driver". He was involved in something else, so he never got around to it. (Also, he expressed a reluctance to drive customers' cars.)

My speedometer is spot on according to GPS, it used to be a bit off but the 275/40/17s are a hair bigger than stock.
