Polling Market for Greddy SMIC Ducts

I am considering making a handful of ducts for the greddy SMIC. These would be made from a comb Carbon Fiber/Kelvar cloth similar to the pictures of my own, based on my templetes. I fitted to a Fluidyne Rad, would also work with stock Rad. I can dye epoxy resin to redden or blacken the orange kelvar upon request. Before I decide to go ahead with this project, I need a feel of sale volume so as to determine manufacture route.

Photos show at a stage of cloth layup and installed in my R2

I used a homemade bracket because I did not get any Greddy parts with my used IC. Greddy braket would fit the same

I'm interested, although much of it would depend on final price, which will probably depend on the amount of interest...

I was in the process of designing my own duct (https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ht=greddy+Duct), but my travel comittments have been a real pain in the butt lately. I would be interested in a black duct depending on the price and fitment. I have a Ron Davis (Mazdacomp) radiator. Let me knoiw the final pricing. Are you thinking the more people that are interested the lower the price (group buy type pricing)?

Thanks.

I would be interested. Simple blackeded fiberglass would do. Kevlar is tough to finish.

Contact rx7.com and the rx7store ... they could 'rent' your duct, make a mold, and offer an M2 like frp duct that is easy to make by a job shop. best in the long run.

Thanks for the initial responses. Yes price would be very dependent on number to be made. Whereas I am not into mass producing these. I am willing to make a handful of perhaps 10. Ten will justify my tooling of a mold to make sacrificial plugs (internal mold). A small quality run would require building up individual plugs from my master templates, as I did for mine; each a one off deal. The first batch would be made from CF/Kevlar, I may consider FG at a later stage ... but in reality, the cost of resin and labor to make templates, molds and lay-ups is the same for both materials .. may as well get something exotic and as light as a feather. The CF/K epoxy is holding up well to the underhood temps. Finish is an ultra clear epoxy with 2 coats of polyurethane for UV protection.

I'll be interested in one, as soon as I know what kind of pricing this will tax on my wallet.

Thanks for you interest. I will be traveling over the next few weeks. I plan to order materials to make about 10 as soon as I get back and start making them then. Probable 4 or 5 in first batch then another 5. I plan to stick with the CF/K. I still need to work out final pricing but expect it to be about $275 shipped. Sorry, I can not give a definitive time right now., some months I am home for awhile, other months all over the world.

Well as black is the favorite color. i will work from there. Wish I could start this weekend but travel to India Saturday. I will try dying the kevlar black and see what it looks like, otherwise use CF. The K/CF cloth is lighter, stronger and wets out with epoxy resin much better... will keep you posted and will be ready to take orders in mid July.

K/CF and CF cloth is about the same cost, CF is about $10 less for the amount used in each duct

Will you be supplying a rubber lip to seal the edges of the duct to the IC?

No rubber seal. My duct does not butt up to the IC except at the top, but rather laps it on sides and bottom, top butts up and bolts. Take a look at photos. I taped edge of intake snorkle to provide longterm protection of laminate and prevent cuts on self.

I would assume each individual user will fit up duct and IC and determine whether to use double sided foam tape, double sided tape or whatever to seal for their application. On mine I used a combo of both thicknesses of tapes. Each fit up will be a little different, SMIC position and angle is a function of a lot of variables from car to car, duct has some play but is govered side to side by body frame and rad.
