If you think you blew your engine check here. (Mods can you make this a Sticky)

It could be your MAP (boost) sensor. When it pops of your idle gets low and erratic and you run really rich. At W.O.T. you basically flood you engine and get very bad hesitation. Because your engine is flooded with gas you will get lots of smoke out of your exhaust and possibly smoke from the engine bay. What you have to do is:

1) Reconnect the MAP Sensor (ties work the best the factory clamps suck).
There is a small hose that comes off the back of the intake manifold and get connected to a small filter before going into the MAP sensor (The filter kind of looks like a small top). Make sure all the hoses are securely connected. The actual MAP sensor sits on the driver side passenger firewall.

2) Replace spark plugs (they should be pretty fouled by now) and oil (You will have gas in it thus the stinky oil)

3) Reset the computer (negative off battery brake in for 30 seconds) and you should be all set.

If the MAP sensor is hooked up (all hoses connected on it), you may have a leak in the line or a bad MAP sensor.

Its not a big deal if it pops off. You notice it right away. I carry a 10 mm wrench in my car now so I can disconnect ground and reset my computer if it happens. As long as you do not drive around on it you will not foul the plugs.

Lightbulb Bad Idle/Dies at stop lights--->maybe the AirPump is not, uhhh...pumping

Good Idea BlackScorpio~
To add to this this thread:

For those who still have their catalytic converter...

If your idle is suddenly rough and lumpy, and your car dies at stop lights. Your airpump may not be pumping air into the cat.

First: check the A/C fuse under the hood by the battery. The A/C and the AirPump share the same 15 amp fuse.

Second: Check the Throttel Position Sensor. It may not be sending the signal to the ECU to turn on the AirPump below 2500~ rpm.

Third: Your AirPump may be toast.
(shameless plug):BTW, I have an extra one for sale if any one needs it.

If all this checks out, get your compression checked.

My .02

John

well, this thread could be a sticky for THOSE WHO HAVE BLOWN MOTORS, so they could share their symptoms. then, if it wasn't a blown motor, post the fix. but only if it were really drastic, and many people were having the same issues...........that would make somepeople on this forum think that they were gods......

blackscorpio,

No worries, I thought you were starting a list of 'symptoms and fixes' suspected poped motors.

Just that i see the MAP sensor issue about 1-3 times per week and I think that it would be good information for someone who was unfamiliar with this issue as I was a few months ago till I popped my MAP sensor off. Just trying to save some peple the time a headache i went through, didnt mean to offend anyone. Maybe as a suggestion we could add a section to the forum for common problems, 5th gear grind, rear end clunking, MAP sensor popping off, A?C making the car stall out in gear. STuff like that, just a suggestion.
