Well, first let me introduce myself. I just bought my first car that I will be fully responsible for. I've had a 1969 GMC and a 1998 Toyota Camry, not to mention a pro-streeted 83 Blazer which runs high 5's in the 1/8th mile. I'm car savvy, just not RX-7 savvy...or imporet savvy for that matter, but I hope that will change. The car I purchased runs but doesn't drive. The transmission is sitting in the back. All the thing needs is bolts. Well there's the problem. I can't find anyone who has tranny bolts and a starter bolt for it... Any ideas?

 

My questions first would be..... why is the tranny sitting in the back? Was it bad? Was it pulled for a clutch job and never put back? Is there fluid in it? How does the clutch look? should you maybe replace it as well?

Just a couple to start with. We'll go from there.

Also.. What RX-7 is this? I see in your profile that its an 88.. is it an NA? TII? Automatic/Manual?

 

The tranny is sitting in the back because the stock one went out. The previous owner bought this one from a salvage yard. It had already been pulled out of an RX-7 that had been crushed. As far as I know, everything is in good condition. I'm having a friend look it over today because it is getting towed to the body shop I work at (Time to get started fixing it haha). I don't know what Rx-7 it is. It has the turbo wheels, but definantly isn't a turbo car. What else can I look for? The interior has been mostly gutted, previous owner had racing aspirations. Also, it is a manual transmission. Thanks for all of your help.

There is a topic in the Archive called "Master list of thread pitches and sizes" or something along those lines. Get the size of the bolts from that topic, and then head to the local fastener store to purchase them.

The FAQ and Archives should be the first place you check before you post a topic, and the search is the 3rd.

That info helped alot, just one more question...I didn't see the sizes of the bolts that bolt the actual transmission to the engine. Am I blind or are they not on that page? If someone has this information, I'd give an arm and a leg for it right about now lol...

 

Yeah, you're just blind, but I'll be nice. It's actually the first bolts listed but I can see how the heading is confusing.

Engine / Tranny Mounts:
(1) 14 mm head - Length = 145mm (5 5/8 in) (with head of bolt)135 mm (5 1/4 in) (from bottom of head of bolt to end of bolt). Nut on opposite end. FINE THREAD
(1) 14 mm head - Length = 100 mm (3 15/16 in) (with head of bolt) 90 mm (3 1/2 in) (from bottom of head of bolt to end of bolt). FINE THREAD
(2) 14 mm head - Length = 45 mm (1 3/4 in) (with head of bolt) 35 mm (1 3/8 in) (from bottom of head of bolt to end of bolt). FINE THREAD
(1) 14 mm head - Length = 40 mm (1 1/2 in) (with head of bolt) 30 mm (1 3/16 in) (from bottom of head of bolt to end of bolt). COURSE THREAD (goes under the starter)

 

Ah it's all in how you read it. I feel so dumb now lol. Well, time to hit up the parts store tomorrow. Thanks everyone.
