I'm not that tall and hate reaching back to get the seat belt. In trying to do my black conversion to the interior I have been hunting for black seat belt holders...

I finally got my hands on a set and they ARE reusable. I just popped the washers out and re-pressed them into the new seat covers...

The only thing I would do different is to separate the sections a lil farther apart to get a "tighter" look. I did measure exactly the holes on the OEM seats but it appears too loose.

 

You can see the plastic "plates" and washer like fasteners...

here is a closer one....I had the seats covers installed by an upholstery shop that scalliwag recommend in FortWorth Tx.....

very good service and fast! I was worried that I couldn't pull it tight enough to get a smooth look.

If I could of waited, I think I would have had RonKMiller do it...thought these covers seem nice...they still seam LARGELY made of vinyl.

I asked mazda to try to purchase just the seatbelt holder but this is NOT available seperately and only available when u buy new OEM seat covers.

I had hunted far and wide for a cheap beat up R1 or cloth seats knowing that I would recover them. Then used those to put on the new covers.

The tan seatbelt holders CAN be reused but if you look at the leatherseats thread and enuttages seats.....he dyed his tan seatbelt holder to black. However due to the belt rubbing back and forth, eventually the tan started to show threw...(that's what he told me)

You might be able to clear coat to prevent it from rubbing off, but again it still may show...since it was such a PITA piece to get to, I never wanted to have to take off the covers just to re-spray it. THAT WOULD BE A PITA...that's why I hunted for BLACK seats....

you might also be able to tell that mine do look "blacker" than the first pics...

I ended up soaking them in black Ritdye..then using the plastic spray paint (designed to adhere to plastic) and sprayed the piece...that seemed to "freshen" the piece up and get rid of the sun bleaching but still not have to worry about the tan showing.

Finally, though these seats are nice...if you have the money and time I would have gone more custom...if you look at enuttages seats or RonKmillers work the leather appears of a finer quality and achieves a "tighter" look. At the same time they paid much more than I did.....

 

Congrats on the covers. They are actually my second favorite people for doing upholstery. My regular guys that make covers for me are just harder to get to and since this was just an install I knew Jesse and Gloria could more than take car of you with a lot less headache.

the box said leatherseats.com the warranty card said katzkins

The only thing I wish was done was that the seams for the perforated backing was double stiched like the OEM...

A previous owner had my R2 seats recovered with actual leather (they aren't swaps from a touring). Everything was done well, except the holder's strap on the passenger side is loose. I noticed it feels as if something elastic in the bottom holder helps keep tension on the nylon strap, but it isn't enough in my case. There's too much slack, and it pops off when I go over a bump.

Did you happen to notice whether the bottom "module" of the holder can be opened up, and possibly adjusted?

 

It can be opened up. If i remember correctly it is held by a rivet to the nylon within the lower section of the belt holder. The nylon gives it the spring effect.

However, the only way to get to it is to remove the seat cover and undo the fasteners to get to the strap. So that mean you would need someone to redo the hog rings after you remove the covers.

I would have tightened mine also but I didnt have anything to redo the rivet.
