Anyone have the SAAB DIN gauge panel part number handy?

I have seen that one. To hold my 52mm gauges it has to be modified.

 

Can it be modified to hold a 52mm gauge or is that out of the question? I have been looking for one forever and until now came up empty handed. I really would like to get it but is it capable of that slight modification?

And just to let everyone know, it fits great and holds gauge(s) really well. Although this pic only has my A/F meter, I've now also got a fuel pressure and EGT gauge in it (although the EGT isn't hooked up yet).



BTW, I forgot to add that you'll pay $14 for the DIN gauge holder since Saab has changed the price. I also found another source for a similar unit. It can be found at the bottom of this page: http://autotech.com/gauge.htm

Anyone try that on a 2nd gen, i want to place it under the radio, but the slot isn't double din. I would i get it to stay? Anyone know who sell the adapter plate? Mine is for single DIN

Anyone here ever think of doing a stealth setup for these triple DIN gauge things? What I mean is that some RX-7's came with a flip-down panel in the DIN opening beneath the stereo head unit. If you were able to recess the triple DIN template about a quarter inch or so (maybe more or less, dunno for sure), you might be able to keep the flip-down piece in place, and be able to close it and hide the gauges when you're parked (or if you just don't wanna see them all the time).

Anyone? If so, pics?

 

Oh yeah, anyone know of a part number on that DIN flip-down panel? I'd imagine it's an OEM thing, but I don't know the part #.

 

Well part of the problem with keeping the flip down piece is the fact the arm that controls the flipdwon sticks into the space about half an inch or so. You probably would only be able to get two meters in their if you kept the panel door intact. I agree that would be sort of interesting.

I'll see if I can get this project under way sometime soon. I just lost my job and am also in the middle of planning my wedding (it's a year off, but I wanna be prepared like a ****). The fiance is a bit of a mad dog when it comes to saving money (she about tore my face off last weekend when I spent $42 on 5qts of redline oils ), so we'll see how much it'll cost and I'll run it by the approval committee

I'm in the process of installing a 3-gauge DIN setup right now. The car is at Mazdatrix and I was there this morning. Anyway, I'm using the HKS DIN holder that Jason sells, it is an actual box with a panel designed for 43mm gauges. It looks almost the same as the Blitz setup, maybe it is. I enlarged the holes in the panel for 52mm gauges, and it fits just fine, but the problem with the box is its just slightly too big heightwise. Now they're going to have to cut off the top of the box to make it fit. What's worse, the panel isn't designed to fit into the slot the same way a radio is. It has some holes in it to attach to something, but these aren't very useful. If you look inside the DIN slot, a regular radio attaches with clips on the deck itself. To release the clips, there are 2 small holes on each side of the deck and you put a special tool in there, and it pushes the clips aside, releasing the unit. You can't see the holes normally because there is a small pull-off panel on each side covering them. Well, the HKS panel doesn't have anything like this. What is going to end up happening is he's going to attach the clips from my CD changer controller in the same position, then mount the gauges, then glue the panel to the box (which is the way its designed to be attached). Once thats all done, when he slides the thing in and it clicks in, the only way to get it out again is to take out the radio from underneath, this is bad, but all the other solutions would result in an unstable setup, either the panel isn't secure, or the gauges aren't secure. ARG!!! I'll post pics when its done.

I orderd the SAAB part on thursday and i will pick it up on monday. What i will do is compare the two, try and cut a little here and there on the HKS part, and then have a little contest to see which one wins. Each one has advantages and disadvantages, I will do a little writeup and post pics.

 

What size are the SAAB panel's holes? 52mm? Looks useful, just wish someone was selling a CF mickey mouse gauge holder.

Installed an A/F gauge and fuel pressure gauge using the SAAB din panel.

Fits perfectly, and install looks perfect.

I can't imagine installing gauges in one of the DIN spots without this.

Just to let people know where I found out about this part, I read about it in a bimmer forum. Looks like they can't get a quality DIN panel either, we're all stealing from Saab

 

I ordered the Saab DIN panel last week and installed it this weekend.

Oh yeah, it seems that the tabs on the Saab panel are designed for a thicker plastic, because when I put it into my FD, it would pop out easily. So I just sanded down the inside of the DIN slot (on the car, not on the panel) a little bit and it fits in there very good now. I also broke off a little tab that was on the side of it that didnt look like it belonged there because it prevented the panel from fitting right. If anybody has problems with it not fitting tightly, then you might want to try this. I wish I had pictures to explain better, but I lost my dig. cam.

Other than those minor issues (which took only about 5 minutes to fix) it fits great and looks like it came from the factory.

2 1/16 inch fits no problem.

I did not have any problems with fitment in my FD. I installed the panel with 2 gauges in the upper DIN panel is. I took out my BOSE system (CD/cassette) and just have a deck in the lower half.
