Running with all BUR9EQs a good idea?

Hey!

I found an RX-7 site a while back that briefly mentioned that running with all 9EQPs (PLATINUM) was all good as even Mazda had said that the only difference between the leading and trailing plugs was that the 7EQs sparked 'hotter' to meet emissions.

I won't be picking up platinum plugs any time soon, but if running with all 9EQs will help lower my engine temp a smidge, I'll do it. Anything for the girl...

Can anyone confirm the alleged Mazda info or add comments on running on all 9EQs. I *don't* want to hurt/kill/f**k up the engine over something so simple.

I have no idea about the plugs. I use the 7eq's and they work just fine. About the "Exhaust Leak", the title changes by how many posts you make. Keep posting, and the title will change. I think after 30, it becomes "Insane Burnout", after that, look around! They're like Pokemon...gotta get em all!

I don't think there is any reason to use all 7s in an NA motor. I do not recommend ever using the Platinum plugs, stick with the stock type. However, on a turbocharged and moderatetly to fairly well modified engine, you should run a colder plug to prevent preignition... the colder plug would be the 9s.

Don't bother on an NA.
Don't bother on a stock or moderately modified turbo.
Run all 9s (not platinum) for most things above a moderatly modified T2.
If you are highly modified (different turbo, haltech, FMIC) you shold run 10.5's or even 11s.

It changes with the number of posts you have, and changes time to time when the admins think of new ones. Once you hit 1000 posts, you can make your own if you want.

running all 9's on a stock car or N/A won't hurt but won't help either. might even lower your torque abit. don't run platuim.

Why are you guys so ANTI-PLATINUM? Doesn't platinum-tip plugs keep their sharp edges LONGER since they are harder metal? Which would mean more consistant and better sparks over a longer period of time right? Our ignition systems are high intensity, so I'm sure it can handle sparking off platinum plugs easily...so why you guys are all saying NOT TO USE IT?...can someone explain!

Talking

Running all 9s is a very good idea, and is *almost* recommended for TIIs over here from Mazda itself. It wont run as smoothly at low rpms, but will definitely increase response and HP up high...

Not to mention that we (here in Greece) dont have much choice. NGK dealer only imports 9s for this type of plug If you want colder plugs (say for modded TIIs or modded 3rd gens) you either have to choose another brand or import them yourself (or order them via a web site).

On my modified turbo cars I always run 9's all around. It seems to work well.

FYI, Racing Beat recommends BR9EQs for non-turbo, street-ported applications.

Platinum plugs no no

Platinum plugs take more energy to fire. So stick to the stock ones. I have a highly modded TII and use cold racing plugs in the leading holes. It did make a difference. The colder plugs also have a lower resistance value, meaning easier and faster firing at higher rpms.

the only good thing about them is they last longer, like they claim 100 000kms or something. but they last longer for a reason, because every spark is weaker. same reason why a 60w light bulb would last longer then a 100w light bulb. just less energy on it all the time causing less wear.

I am running all 9s in my 88 SE. Not modded much yet, but it is coming. Colder plugs will never do anything bad to the engine when compared to hotter plugs, it is a safety mechanism.
