Radio Shack Power Antennas

If anyone is interested, you can still get the RS power antenna. I'm told they have abut 150 left, then they're gone for good.

"RadioShack is discontinuing the car audio line of products. In
researching, the Cat# 12-1330 is only available through the Order
Center at 1-800-843-7422, option 2. It is available for a limited
time. Once the product is sold out we will no longer be carrying it."

The installation instructions are here:

I got one of those things a really long time ago. It still works (but it's been out of a car for 12 years).

$19.95, and about $3.00 shipping. I just installed and tested it, it works great. They're half price until they're gone.

Im sure dave got busy. If you drive an 81 up all the wires are right there for you. Actually you only need 2. 1 is 12V constant and the other is power ant (radio trigger from the headunit) I would also suggest making yuor own ground from the metal frame of the ant to chassis.

also I was told a long time ago, never coil ant wire up, just let it lay in whatever spot it will go, dont try to be neat... I dont understand it, but came from a smart source and I have been doing it that way over 10 years.

I have one. It's as quiet as stock. And even if it is louder, - Who cares? It only goes up and down once per drive. Not like it's constantly cycling up and down.

You can hear it, but I've never heard the stock one so I can't compare the loudness. It took me about an hour to install, not bad at all especially if you follow these instructions exactly:

My stock one sounds a bit like slats/flaps deploying on a plane at landing....

Mike, the reason you don't want to coil an antenna lead is because it will then act as a choke, and weaken your signal.

I don't know if anyone really cared, but that's why.

the reason i asked is it's loud enough to make passengers jump. i'd rather they freak out from my driving, not my antenna. it doesn't bother me, but i'm concerned for my passenger's well being. then again, the look on their faces (every time) is PRICELESS!

sorry for the huge delay,
i did end up spending more time trying to fix my power steering then on the antenna,

but heres how it went,
i had to wire a constant hot to the front,
the remote turn on and ground were already at the rear,

the atenna is extremely quiet, more so then the stock unit.
its very smooth and fast acting,
looks great,and fit right in.
well i did have to remove the rear passenger side tail light,

overall took about 1.5 hrs
mainly for running the power wire and removing the passenger panel, and the tail light.

i couldnt possibly complain, and have searched around and found no deal that comes close.
price wise or package wise

excellent addition to anyone who is not on a weight diet.
