Protek R and Marvel Mystery Oil.

I have been putting this Protek R in my fd for some time, however i run of it and I don't feel like ordering this stuff anymore. I searched a little bit and i was wondering can i use this Marvel Mystery Oil instead of protek R.

If i can how much should i put in on each fill up. I have couple of those protek R 4 oz left. Should i just refil it with MMO and fill it up or what? Is 4 oz too much or too little?

Thanks

I've been using MM oil because I can get it at Wallmart on my lunch break acrros the street. I haven't tried the Protek-R but have wanted to.

I have not noticed any smoke like you get with premix oil, like I used to get with my dirt bikes. Did you notice any with the Protek?

On the label of the Marvels Mystery Oil it says: "4oz for every 10 gal". I beleive the tank below empty is 16gal (so 6oz), but most of the time you'd be filling 10-14gal and 4oz of MMO is good enough for me.

I love MMO. Used it in the FD and in my SR. Worked well in the SR when i used a quart of it instead of oil.....cleaned out all the crap in the used motor that was prob sitting for years in some yard.

I have several of those small protek R bottles that I have been filling up and using on both my FD and FB. If you get the gallon size MMO you can get one of those hand pumps from Sta-lube brand oils that will work great to fill up the little bottles, each pump is exactly 1oz. Or, you can get the 24oz size and just pour in 4oz at a time using the measure marks molded on the side of the plastic bottle. I alternate between the two methods depending on either availability or lazyness.

uhhhh, why use the marks on the side of the 24oz size? the protek r bottle is only 4 oz, it's not gonna hold anymore.......

My 1qt. bottles of MMO have 4oz measurements on the side of the bottle.

In the storage bins, I always have MMO, Mobil1 15w-50, windex, and paper towels.

Pennzoil makes a 100 percent synthetic marine 2 stroke oil, and they claim it's ashless. Any reason not to use that vs. MMO or Protek R?

Because MMO not only helps lubricate, it also cleans and helps seal. It has been known to bring diesel engines back from near death.

I could be wrong, but I think I read in a old thread that MMO and Protek-R were the same because of the serial number or something like that. Just sold under a different name and company I guess.

But I've got about 8 or 10 more bottles or protek left. Once those are gone, I think I'll switch to MMO since you can get it at wallmart. You can get anything there.

I think I heard that too somewhere. I bet they are at least very similar. However, Protek R is dark brown and is thicker than the thinner, red colored MMO.

Unless Marvel Mystery oil is under contract with Klotz oils, they are two different things. Klotz, one of the most reputable names in the petroleum industry, makes the Protek R for Pettit. Just some insight. Thanks.

Well, Protek R is simply 2-cycle oil sold under a different (and more expensive) name. Im not sure if the thread is still around, but I think it was Polaris 2-cycle oil...something like that.

I just use MMO. I also tried Neo 2-cycle premix, but couldnt tell any difference.

edit: the original thread is gone, but some of it was reposted here after the crash

Don't add anything to the oil. It's just regular Marvel Mystery Oil, not the gas treatment.

It should look like the bottle in this picture.

Jonski is right, MMO works....I tried it in my car and after a couple of tanks my idle vacuum is up from 14 to 15

I used two stroke pre-mix for several years so there is probably alot of deposits built up in the engine

I use 4oz per 15 gallons and I skip every fifth or sixth tank to keep the concentration from rising.

you can basically run any 2-stroke oil as long as it's rated TC-W3 or something and that it says it's ashless. MMO is cool as well. I normally mix it with 8oz of toluene for that lil extra ummph.
