Question 250 rwhp from NA?

I post this for a friend who has a NA. He need to know the list of things to do or buy in order to reach 250 rwhp level? Or, maybe a turbo to reach 300? Thanks.

Without boost or laughing gas, I don't think you can get a 13B NA to 250rwhp, maybe 200 with porting, no cats, full exhaust, intake, pullies, no AC, no PS, no air pump. Check this page for what other guys have dyno'd with their mods: http://www.trackracers.org/matt/dyno.html

Yes, you would really be struggling so get that amount of power out of a NA without laughing gas. If you had the engine peripheral ported you would have at least that much but it would be all top end and pretty much undrivable on the street.

It can be done. It just depends on how driveable and reliable you want it to be.
Check out this link for details. http://yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au/~saf/porting.html

O.K. Not possible on a street driven car. 250 from a bridgeport is a bit high and if attainable, not practical. That would be the way to go though. Next level portings aren't really even an option unless....

it is ALMOST possible; but you will have to give up fuel injection for a carb setup; you will be close, with full exhaust; underdriven pullies and carb you should be pushing anywhere from 215-225 HP, but you will need to use nitrous and porting if you want more power

Actualy it's possible to get over 300 hp from a highly modded (non-turbo) peripheral port 13b. Mazdatrix says that the output is approximately 310-315 hp.

The catch is that this type of engine is only good for racing, and is useless for normal street use (not to mention, illegal... because of no polution controls), because all of the power is made high up, and there is virtually no hp or usable torque at the bottom end.

Cool

It is possible with peripheral porting, a totally open exhaust and a few other things. However, you would not ever want to drive that car on the street.

If you want 250HP, then install a turbo or supercharger.

Mazda comp. got 320 out of a bridgeported engine at the flywheel. I'm not sure what that is to the wheels.? I'd say over 250 though. I'm currently building a 4port 13b with a bridgeport. In street trim I'm expecting 240-260 at the flywheel. And I'll be very wary of cops. At the track I'll open up the exhaust a bit and add earplugs and I'll be expecting 280 at the fly. By the way all these estimates are coming from experience rotary builders. I've been told that with open exhaust, meaning headers to megaphone, and weber downdraft IDA's you can get 300 at the fly. This is basically what Mazda comp did. Just better. Or more money.?

Fuel INjection is worth 30HP on top of what is achievable with carbs

to give you some examples of what is achievable with injection

12A Extended Port (4 Port block) 244HP at the flywheel on pump gas

12A PP, race gas 342HP at the flywheel

13B PP, race gas and Slide butterlies 375HP at the flywheel.

Either an Injected 13B Bridge port, J Port, PP or Carbie'd PP will make 250rwhp on your dyno's

You can get 225-250rwhp with a huge streetport as long as you have a Haltech or similar ECU. The stock ECU just won't do it quite as easily as an aftermarket one will. Bridgeported...definately PP...without a doubt yes.

Grass Roots Motorsports have a street port 13b in a spitfire putting down 250 hp. They use a tec 2 and an open exhaust. Probably a few other little tricks.
You will always make more power with properly tuned FI then a carb.

I just got to drive a 305HP Hill Climber. Considering this is a freaking go-kart with wings, i would say it puts quite a bit of that power to the wheels. With Driver the car weighs 1300lbs. The powerband doesnt even kick in untill 7 grand. Rev-limiter was set at 11.5k for me cause im a rookie Normal limit is 13k.

This car is N/A/13b/carb running the biggest port i have ever heard.

In case anyone thinks im full of it....i have videos of me to prove it

0-100 in under 6 seconds. Not bad for an N/A. He said he had a normal street ported motor sitting in his garage that pushes 220.

BTW...this car is FOR SALE! The website should be up soon for it. He wants $8,800.

FORGOT....i have pics of it too!

Yep.... Take the body off your N/A, peripheral port it, and run NOS.
You will get there!
Or... I guess you could just buy a 13BT and get done the easy way!
Turbos are the only way to go.
