how much did you pay?
around how much did you guys pay for your 3rd gens? n/a and turbos
how much money do you have tied up in them also?
im thinking about getting one, but i will definatly need to save a bit
im 17 now with half a hooked up prelude (an old one) i dunno weather i should save for a new car (rx7) or keep dumping money into this peice. whatcha guys think?
p.s. i would prolly be looking for a 5spd with a blow engine or now engine or shitty engine...prefferably a n/a for insurance and build up a tt engine. how much does a used tt engine run? do you guys get em from japan (like us honda guys)?

Learn is the first word that comes to mind. Do a search and find out everything you can. 1st off, all 3rd gens are twin turboed unless the owner went single. These cars are very expensive a) to purchase and b) to maintain. I paid $16k for mine and have put about $5k into it with upgrades. Not to mention the coutless hours of work.
think i could keep it under 20g with new engine? with a nice body. i have 0 dollars as of now...but a loan comes to mind. cuz either i have to start to save or im gonna buy an old civic to beat around and turbo the prelude or keep the lude as the main driver and save for an rx...i dunno which would be better right now. i should probably stop dreaming. thanks for the quick replys!
If you save $20k then you will be in good shape. My car came with a 1k mile old engine. You can find a nice car with a new engine or a blown engine at a resonable price. After that fix the blown engine if you choose the latter and start a life of TLC that the car needs and deserves.
Paid $13,000 for my '93 with 43,000 miles on the original motor ( base model ). Go to traderonline.com and search on RX-7 that will give you a good idea on price. And, like tt said 'read all you can' Tom

If you have "0" dollars as of now, I don't see how you're gonna get a loan and be able to maintain the car. I'm in the same boat as you, kinda. I drive a 96 Accord right now
but I been working my *** off and saved up about 5k. I could easily sell the accord and get a decent FD. But nah, thx to forum I found out I need to save up a little more. Its better to be safe than sorry.

I got my 94 RX7 R2 Black on black(hot in herrrree)
Paid 15,900 for it 10k on new turbos 20 k on new engine un-modded.
Ive had it for 2 years with just minimal simple probs.
Altenator went out and IC piping tore..NO biggies.
I would get a car that would be less hassle for you in the future if dont make a good amount of money. Or have any other financial backing.

Bought my 93FD in 6/92 brand new for 31K out the door. Since then I have poured in about 6K in mods and have 74K on the original motor. These babies are expensive to maintain and or add mods, but IMO, well worth it
I paid 25k in 1996 for a 1993 touring w/ 15,800 miles on it. Since then my extended warranty co. paid around $11k on repairs(new engine, turbos, water pumps etc.). I also spent $6k on bolt-on powerr upgrades and wheels + suspension.
holy ****, tfhuth when did you get your car?
He had it for like 6 ( six ) years and put 6,000 miles on it. I really like this car. Had a couple minor things to fix right off the bat, but this car is great. It doesn't seem like there are many in Ohio. Glad I bought it!! Tom

price also depends on where you're located in the country. there are a lot more FDs in the south (FL, CA, etc) than there are in the north, which means they are a lot cheaper in the south. do a search on Autotrader and you will see this. i am in ohio and i searched for about 4 months before i found mine. it had just under 100k on it (over now), but it was the cleanest and cheapest one i looked at...at $15,000, but i still feel like i got a good deal. no major problems yet, but i'm in the middle of replacing my vacuum hoses, so we'll see how that goes...
ok. i might be getting another prelude engine soon, fer free. so i would have an extra engine to play with and im gonna put forsale signs on the lude till i get an offer i can't refuse, then but an old 4dr civic for like 1000 bucks and put the extra lude motor in it
then save some more money and tach it onto the extra money i had from selling the car. then buy a nice rx7 body, and sit that around till i have the money for a motor...now, only if it goes as good as is sounds
sorry for the wierd *** post, but i saw this blue rx7 at OC maryland and i fell in love imediatly.

I paid 16,500 for my 93 touring. with 18s new tires, new engine from the dealer, suspension, gauges, exhuast, dp, turbo timer, r1 lip and spoiler...
I have had it for 8 months and all i have done is change the oil and add mods...
but these cars do get really shitty gas mileage.. caution.

IM actually in same boat as you. I have a 99 Civic Si. im looking to sell to buy an rx7 (going to finance). Im actually looking for a rx7 that has a new motor in it already so i know it can be reliable for me. Looking to pay around 14-16. You guys think i can find one in that price range?

Where are you in PA. I probably got one of the best deals out of anyone here...
I bought mine about 2 years ago. Car had 74k was 12,900 with a $2500.00 trade brought it down to 10,400 and the cats were clogged(so it had like only 3 psi boost) so the guy cut me a check for 3k. This was from a dealer. The car had been sitting for a while and the guy wanted to get rid of it.
Oh and I've put about 5-6k into my car or probably more with maintance/mods/repairs.
