1) how old are you?
2) what is your driving record like?
3) will the FD be your only car?
4) do you have any other types of insurance?

maintaining a FD is pretty similar to any other car. do a search for reliability mods

hmm... well asking insurance 'cost' is tricky, that varies SOO much based on like 20000 variables No two quotes are EVER the same - insurance companies are very shady, and they always change things. I was given 3 different quotes within a month when asking how much my maxima was going to be, but maybe i had bad luck.

The only way that you will know how much it costs, based on the plan you and/or your parents currently have, is to call your insurance company and ask. They have no problem giving out quotes. Just make SURE to write it all down, and make SURE that they record it as well (they usually do, but not always. it helps when calling back to demand the same as they quoted before). It's helpful to have a VIN number handy, as that is ultimately what they base the quote off of.

The better question, one that I've been having myself, is what insurance symbol is it? For those that don't know, insurance symbols rate from 7-27, based on a billion factors that insurance companies have figured out, as to how much the car will be to insure (based on how stupid the drivers of them are, how safe they are, how much it costs to replace parts, etc). A civic or something isn't very much, but an NSX is one of the most expensive. For reference,
a WRX is a 15 or a 17, but apparently rates for it are going up because of dumbass teens wrecking them
my 2k Maxima SE is an 18 (argh!)
I think a Camaro Z28 is a 21-24
I think my dad's 4cyl Camry is 11-14.
97 BMW 328 sedan is a 23
97 BMW 328 coupe is a 25

As far as I know these are universal symbols throughout the insurance industry, not to one company in particular, *but I could be wrong*. My company is 21st century insurance. Anybody have more info on this?

I'm really curious - does anyone know the symbol to the FD rx-7's, or can you call to find out?

Do a search, this has been discussed before. I pay $93 a month for full coverage on my 93 R1. I am 21 w/ 2 speeding tickets on my record and a $1000 deductable.

I'm 18, and a male, and i pay 59 bucks a month for full coverage....1993 touring

My parents allowed it to be under their name as well, just to lower the cost...and they don't even drive it

20 and I pay $680 every 6 months for full coverage w/500 deductable and I have a spotless driving record. Keep in mind this is through State Farm with multi car discount, multi line discount and good student discount. The same coverage without those discounts is 980/6 mo.

It depends on location also. In Los Angeles, the rate is 50%+ higher than outside the city.

Hell yes location matters! I live in Jersey, I think the highest rates in the country. I envy you guys. I'm 21 with one speeding ticket and liability alone for me is just about 3000.

Q-Ball and I are the many in Jersey getting the fat shaft.....BIGTIME!... $59 a MONTH!!! Holy ****! What state is this! When I was 21 I had 11 (bullshit btw) points on my license and insurance was costing me $5800 a year for my Vette at the time. It got so out of hand that when I got my last ticket they wouldn't insure me (never had one claim or an accident). It's a ******* joke in this state! I ended up having to sell the car just so I could keep driving to school with my other piece of **** car (which still ran me $2800 a year for basic coverage).
Since then it's been over 5 years later, not one point on my license, still no accidents, and I pay over $11,000 a year for full coverage on my 2000 X-terra, 93 3rd gen. (which basically is just a track car and never driven), and '02 M3. The funny part is that no one else drives these cars but me, so why insure me as if I'm able to drive them all at the same time incurring the same risk? The insurance ***** said that I pose an inherent risk base on my vehicles and age group-the **** does that mean! Little does he know that I’m involved in a class action suit against several insurance companies in NJ for a biased rate gouging among tiered drivers.

I'm in the same boat, and I called my insurance carrier and got a rough quote in less than an hour. I suggest you do the same.

My situation: I'm 25, perfectly clean history, Pennsylvania, FD would be 2nd car, non-daily-driver.

I already have a 97 Maxima insured at $1000/yr as daily, and a 94 FD would run an _additional_ $1000/yr.

Considering I've never even been pulled over in my life, no accidents, never made a claim on any of my cars, you kids on your parents' plan need to take notice - this is _as good_ as it gets.

Also, keep in mind the cost of the insurance is strongly related to the value of the car.

aight guys thanks for all the replies.

aight well i'm 17 right now but will probably be getting the car when i'm about 19 or 20(i know it's a long time away but i'm doin my homework first) and i have one speeding ticket. I live in New Mexico and i'm under state farm insurance. I would probably insure my truck and the car under my parents name. I pay about 125 bucks every 6 months my truck now. I was hoping it would be like a 100 bucks a month for the car and the truck. I only have liability on the truck right now.

21st century. 26. engineer discount. primary car, 2000 accord v6 coupe. secondary car, 94 fd. 6 months, almost 1700. before i bought the fd it was about 950, so that's about 700 extra for the fd. 1 ticket. bay area. damn that's expensive.

i'm in the same boat with the jersey guys. I live outside philly and the insurance company is bending me over at around 4k a year with 2 violations. i'm on my own plan, but what i found out is that while the car does make a difference, the age group makes a much more significant one. insurance is legal robbery

4000 as u as a primary driver or under your mom's name? Put it under ur mom's name and it'll be a lot cheaper and try statefarm, that's what i hear is a great deal. And there's like a 3 car deal plan thingy. At least that's what i'm going to do when i get my fd. then it should be about 100-150 a month.

DID U GUYS KNOW INSUR. FOR AN ITR IS 400 a month???(for a 16 yr old)

if you are an engineer they give you a discount. either a letter from your employer or a diploma.

I'm with USAA (military only) so this wouldn't help you.

But I recently asked for a quite between the rx-7 and S2000.

6 months would be $367. I'm 31.

When I had a '93 in 1996 I can't remember the insurance quite from allstate. But I remember my buying decision.

I asked the allstate agent a quite for a '6 prelude and the '93 rx-7. He told me they were the same, so I picked the RX-7. :-)

i dont own a FD yet, but hopefully i'll get it in late september or november. 17 right now. clean record (no speeding tickets, NEVER been pulled over). been in 2 accidents though (with damage to ONLY my car). i pay $2000/year Full coverage with $250 deductible through Bruce Homer Nationwide Insurance. i also am a good student (extra $$$ off b/c of good grades, 4.0) and have taken drivers education, so that also knocked off some $$$. i own a 97 integra. this is in Florida (i think i'm getting shafted)

Your insurance on and FD is going to be around $4000 for full coverage on your own.

This isn't regarding you, but even if an accident isn't your fault, your insurance will regard you as a high risk driver and add a little more to your premium. Yes, insurance companies can shaft you all you want because the law allows them to since insurance is manditory.

I got myself a quote at progressive for a '93......

A little over 3,000 for six months. That's just for 10,000/20,000. I'd be paying about $6,500 a year. I think I'm going to shoot somebody......

I'd be 16 by the way. I think I'll get an Yamaha r6 instead of a car.....
