Hey all, had a nce day today. So ed, coming over this weekend to help me bleed brakes and install the tranny? The flywheel should be here friday...






Total cost:
2 front rebuilt calipers: $120
2 rear rebuilt calipers: $140
2 front rotors, new: $56
2 rear rotors, new: $54
Stainless Steal lines: $85
Brake fluid: $5

Total: $460

anyone have an idea what this would have costed if a shop did it? 4 corner, new/rebuilt everything brakes?

where'd you get the rotors? are those single piston front calipers?

yeah... add on "!/index.html" to the link, the forum isn't allowing the ! in the url... the fronts were from napa, the rears were from an ebay auction. single pistons

EDIT: for got about the spleed bleeders...

In all i suppose its costing me around $500 for the four corners...

and where did you get the rebuilt calipers?

 

I got the front calipers off the forum, and the rears off ebay ( i think, maybe they were both off the forum, i forget now). The speed bleeders came from speedbleeder.com i think. I've seen them at nopistons for slighly cheaper (couple dollars to the set)...

 

I just checked my old PM's, it seems those rear calipers only costed my $120

Hey man looks nice. I have standby duty this weekend so I don't know if I'll get called or not but I'll try to come out and help you do as much as I can. The brakes shouldn't take too long to bleed, and the clutch is cake. Did you get the counterweight from the auto drive plate off the crank shaft yet?

 

Could have rebuilt the brakes your self and saved even more money.

Nope, the plan for tomorrow is after work, swing up to sears and buy a puller ($29). Go home, finish the rear brakes (mazdatrix never replied back to confirm the rear-steer bushings... so i dunno whats up with that...) I'm going to try to see what happens to put it together w/o the bushing. It will probably suck... but I don't know what mazdatrix did with my order... Then I'll remove that couter weight. The flywheel should be here friday.

Yeah... I did that wit the rear caliper's last summer. So.. technicaly I do have two rebuilt rear rotors that are now for sale. Heh... yeah, i wasted a little cash i guess...


I rebuilt a set last summer... It didn't solve many problems though (lack of skill/tools). Anyhow, the repacement is going much better (less the desinigrated rear-steer and few rounded bolts).

I was thinking the same thing - You have the 5 lug, why go with single piston calipers? Weird.

 

didi u have problems taking the rotors off the hub?
on my 88 vert, I am doing the same minus the hoses, and I got the 2 screws off but the rotors will NOT come off the hub, any ideas?
my car has been on jack stand for a month :-(
I tried lightly hitting with a 3 lb hammer, no luck.
help!

 

Use a 10 lb hammer.




Seriously - soak it in releasing fluid and start hitting the disk (at the hub). Keep turning the disk so that you don't keep hitting the same place. Hit it hard - and if all else fails use heat.
