Question Engine fan comes on when car is cold

I am troubleshooting a couple of issues:
1. Fan comes on when I turn the key (even when car is cold). Any ideas why?

My circuit relay is also not clicking. Working on getting this replaced. By any chance can these be related?

First of all, how long have you noticed the fans coming on? If they have been coming on since you've had the car someone could have grounded the the fan test point behind the ECU (black female spade connector behind the ecu, part of the fan recall, little black box, 2"x 2"x 1" black box, also part of the fan mod) If it just started you may have a shorted fan relay. The fan relays are on the right side of the car near the intake box on the fender well, there are (4) of them. Depending on the year of your car and whether or not you have the coolant system recall done will tell you which electrical diagram you need to look at. If you have the workshop manual you can run thru the diagnostics there and troubleshoot the relays. My car had a similar problem where the fans ran constantly when the ignition was off, turned out to be a bad relay. If you don't have the manual you can check out:
www.scuderiaciriani.com for info, if not there let me know, I think Derek VanDitmars (sp?) has the electrical (post recall) diagram online. Good luck, hope this helps.

Regards,
Frank

so grounding out the little black box will make the fans come on as soon as the car does?

also look for shortages.i had a shortage once, where 2 open wires were touching and the funs would run from that.

having the fans running too much is not a big deal, id be worried if they never came on till it was too late like on some FD's where they kick in at 230 F
