How much for rebuliding the transmission?

Hi,
Recently I always difficult to go into 3 Gear, and I heard some rattle sound when I put into 5 gear. I think it is time to rebuild it. How much do a shop charge for?

Thanks

If I rebuild the transmission, I only need to replace the 3 and 5 Gear, or the whole transmission?

Thanks

Was it a rattle sound when putting it in the 5th or more like a grinding?

You can probably get away with just replacing whatever's needed (gears, synchros, seals, whatever) to get those two gears working but most people find that it's not that much more expensive to just get the whole thing done. www.kdrotary.com has the best printed price I've seen for a rebuild. I had them do mine and it came out to be about $1200.00

the factory parts to rebuild the tranny (bearings, seals, synchro's) are $1200, plus if it grinds you will need the shift hubs too.
a brand new tranny from mazda is about $2200

You're right, just to let everyone know I believe Dave at KDR uses(or at least used on mine) parts from a parts manufacturer other than Mazda. They are just as good, but much lower priced which allows him to keep the price of the rebuilds down.

Pineapple rebuilds them for $400, and they include synchros according to the website. How they can do this I have no idea, but here you go:

Pineapples prices just include labor, not parts. Thats still a damn good deal from a damn good shop.

no they fixed the problem, for $500. its still way too cheap, its 2 hours rnr, plus about 6-8 to take the tranny apart and put it back together, plus parts.
