The question of an FD's value.

Last Friday, at one of the biggest dealer auction houses in the US, a 1993 VR FD pulled into the lane and the auction began.

It was a 1993 Touring with 60,000 miles and in MINT condition.

Do you know how much this thing did at the dealer auction? $15,900. A 94 touring/peg sold for $13,000, but it was in terrible shape. I personally wasn't there, but my buyer was, and he looked them over for me since he knows how I have been curious about their value fluctuation.

It seems, as if people ARE looking for them, and are willing to pay a LOT more than book value if necessary. Retail Book value (not KBB) is only about $12,900 for a 93. Personally, I think these books are full of ****, but it's what everyone goes by

The pricing for FDs is something that I have been looking into now... You can pretty much throw blue back values out the window... The price of a FD really is what someone is willing to pay for it. Whats the most would you pay for a FD???

I'd be willing to pay around 26k for a '95 R2 in mint condition with VERY low miles. The '95's seem so damn hard to find though.

I'd love to pay 12K for a '93! I see people on Auto trader asking well over 20K. They are not '95s either.

Two FD3s's and hanging on

I have two 94 Tourings one White and one Montego Blue. I have listed the White one for $16,500.00 and feel this is reasonable for the condition it's in. You can find them cheaper but in alot worse shape than the two I have ....I'm not willing to give it away so I'll just have two till someone wants one in nice condition for the price I'm asking....White is rare and completely stock with 74k on it......why should I give it away ? ? ? ?

I saw a beat-up '93 cym R1 at a local Santa Ana used car dealership going for $16,999. The funny thing is that under that price, you can clearly see it marked for $17,999. I bet when I go back, I wont see it there anymore . Only a dolt would by that car. I'm serious! The door handle actually fell off when I sat inside and clased it. I calmly threw it down to the floor, but everything looked like crap! And the motor!!!!!!! O god I'm not going to continue. It pains me to do so . BTW, if my memory serves me correctly, it had around 60K miles on it.

Blue book is wacked.
These cars have a great deal of value to those who understand their purpose.

okay then...

I agree that the price seems to be everywhere. I have a 1995 FD PEP package montego blue 5 spd in mint condition with only 13K orig miles!!!

Now what do you think its value is?? I agree with the earlier post that these vehicles outperform anything close to this price. I plan on selling it but not giving it away! I realize that a "ragged out" FD won't get you much but the difference b/w ragged out and mint can be the difference in 10K of work!....my 2cents

Bought my 1994 PEP, 67K miles, pretty much mint, for 14K. Felt like I stole it since down the street a dealer had a 1995, 80K miles, base model for 16K. 16,500 to 18000 is probably what I should have paid. Damn the bad luck.

I love these threads.....people trying to talk up the value of their cars...meanwhile all the published price guides continue to show a slow steady decline.

Then you'll see a lot of posts, like the one above, in which owners say they got their cars at bargain prices.

So people who buy the cars get 'em cheap, but if you go to sell it, you're going to get a high price?

Prices follow the bell shaped curve, and you'll always be able to find extremes at either end. What counts is the mean price, and that's why the price guides are relied upon so much. They show what someone can reasonably expect if they go to buy or sell a particular car.

So far, unfortunately, the FD hasn't reached collector status. To do that, it will have to show a sustained upward trend in prices.
