anyone installed a battery relocation kit?

how did you run the cable from the engine bay to the storage bin? also where did you ground the negative??? thanks

Run the wire along the driver side, there is a site that has it pretty detailed on what to do... I dont know it though.... Also does anyone know wjere to get a battery holer or somethin to be put in the bins???

Battery

I ran mine down the passenger side to the little bin right behind the passenger seat.

stick your head under the dash on the driver's side and look up and to the left. there is a big circular hole in the firewall there. it comes out in the corner of the engine bay but might be blocked by the cruise control stuff if you have it. the hole in the engine bay is a square actually and faces the side of the car. you stick your cable through there, peel back some of the wheel well and route the cable through into the interior's hole. run the wire behind the quarter panels and carpet and stuff and underneath the driver's side bin. get at least 13 feet. 12 feet for me just barely made it.

ground the negative terminal between the passenger side seat belt bolt and chassis. scrape off the paint on the chassis where it'll connect for a better electrical connection.

my big question is how to get it through from the engine bay to the interior. do you need to create a hole or is there one somewhere? thanks for input.

oh, by the way i got mine from M2 and i was a little disillusioned. they say it comes with "Kit includes: (1) Sealed drycell battery; (1) metal mounting case; (2) pre-cut lengths of positive & negative 2-gauge battery cables; (4) cables ends; (2) terminal covers."

the metal mounting case can't really be 'mounted' on anything and thats the big problem. i was hoping for a way to secure it so it won't rattle around or anything which is why i paid $300. well now i feel stupid because i paid $300 for a $100 battery and a couple cables...

how did you guys secure the battery?

alwan16-you must of posted as i was typing mine, thanks to you and the other two who responded. just what i was looking for. i don't think i have that long of a cable though i haven't measured it. that would be a great kick in the crotch if it didn't reach...

well personnaly, i did not secure it, it holds so thight in the storage bin that it can't moved. it won't be the same thing if you remove completly the bin though.

this is the way mine looks like.

For the wire, get your driver front side wheel off and remove the plastic inner fender. You will understand what we are talking about. There is a hole there that is not used for anything. but you really have to remove the platic because you can't see it by the engine bay and almost not by the interior.

definitely helped, thanks. i'm very clear on getting the cable into the interior now. what is the shortest route to the bin though? not sure how much cable is in the kit, or how it was intended to be setup. you don't have to cut any holes or anything to get the cable into the bin do you? i'm sure i'll see whats what when i go to do it, but i'm at work and just trying to picture it.

well it depends if you want to put it on the driver or the passenger side. Personnally, i putted it in the driver side because it is easier to access the passenger one so i wanted to still have an easy access storage room. But putting it in the passenger bin is better for weight distribution.

To pass the cable in the car, you might have to remove the driver seat. personnaly i removed it since there is only five nut to get off and it is done. I saved my self a lot of bad word doing this i think

You might have to cut some hole on the side of the bin to pass you cable but it won't be visible once the side panel will be put back to place. Pretty sure you will figure it out when you get there. I believe the hardest part was to remove the side panels which are snaped really thight. I didn't want to crack them so...

just go out of the hole underneath the dash and run it underneath the carpet along the driver's seat. you've gotta take off the door sill to unhook the carpet. you've gotta take off the doorsill anyway to take out the quarter panels and rear bins.

i don't know what kind of battery you've got but i'm guessing it's smaller than stock. if it's the pc925 or pc680 you can't just plop these batteries in the bin and expect them to be safe and stable. you've gotta cut a hole in the bin and mount the battery box onto the chassis by drilling holes through it and securing it with bolts. it's the most secure way and the ONLY way if you're going to race your car. use the metal case m2 shipped to you. i actually used the stock battery tray with a small block of wood underneath to level the tray on the chassis. the chassis is not flat underneath the bins. i then went out and bought some new j-bolts to mount the battery with. i had to cut and die the j-bolts to the correct length (about 6") to fit them in low enough to close the bins. it isn't an easy process but cleans up the engine bay nicely.

wow this is all good stuff, i think i'm set. i've saved everything you guys advised so if anyone ever asks this question again i'll post it up with credit where credit is due!
since my license is under suspension for a couple weeks i've got plenty of time to do this...

O.K. when I orderd M2's kit it did not come with the mounting tray and it came with the wrong battery that I asked for. I don't know what battery they sent you or what your intentions are for the car but I used a PC680 I went through the firewall by the driver footrest(deadpedal) under the door sill to the passenger side bin I was able to mount the battery in the bin without having to cut it out just by opening up the bottom of the slots for the hinges a little I then used some nice foam that I got from my work. I have to say it looks alot better than everyone I've seen so far and If I ever wanted to switch it back I could,and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.
It saved me alot of work not having to cut the bin out and it looks alot cleaner not to mention the foam is way more secure than the tray mount.

well, personnaly, i like the way mine looks and i used a bigger battery so i could not let the bin the way it was because the battery didn't fit in the bin. Although, it would be nice to see what your installation looks like, do you have some pics?
