Alternator getting VERY hot

Alternator getting VERY hot

I mean, hotter than the engine. It appears to be new (very new, actually). I already re-did the grounds on the alternator to battery, and battery to coils.

My charging system seems fine. lights dont dim or anything...

that might be your idle problem. someone posted a thread on how the idle smoothed out upon replacing the alt. only thing i know it could be is friction. i doubt its getting hit with mega amps to make it heat.

I wouldn't worry about, really. Even with my TII Hood, I find the Alternator to be really HOT.

me too.. my S5 TurboII runs fine and the alternator stays HOT.

Don't touch it.

Mine gets hot too...

I'd start to suspect if it was melting wiring around it though...

Just means its doing its job. Alt's, like turbos, get hot when working.
