Aftermarket cd player pics
Aftermarket cd player pics
If you installed an aftermarket cd player, i'd like to see some pics. I had trouble fitting in my deck with the stock bracket... well it bolted up.. but i have gaping holes EVERYWHERE!
I'll need to make a custom trim ring (which I don't want to do) or buy another flimsy kit (which I REALLY don't want to do)
thanks

Damn..I just went through this. What a pain.
I can get you some pics, but I am at work, so I would have to get them later. Maybe I should of done a writeup or something.

The unit in the top pic is an alpine with three disc changer and cassette, I don't remember the model number.
The other ones are from my FC, but about a year old. I have since replaced the trim panel and factory storage pocket with a new panel, with a Ford/Saab cup and coin holder in there. (see below)

I am not wild about the aluminum look, and will probably go to a gloss black like the logicon eventually.
The other thing you can't see is that the buttons (which look white in the picture) are normally bright orange when lit to match the dash.
(for you 'vert owners, notice the clock/idiot panel... I added a warning light for the trunk by using a panel from a coupe, and running the trunk wire over from the factory alarm. I also blacked out the lettering "Hatch" right under it. Kinda cool I thought.

Yep.. best off just making your own. Just go to any car audio place and ask for some leftover textured ABS...
The meaure it and cut out.....
Here's a pic of my CD player and the DSP... ignore the gap around the S-AFC, I hadn't cut the ashtray lid out yet- I have now.
hmm.. can't seem to attach. weird. never mind.

I got a Metra fit kit with my most recent attempt. Was very impressed, it kicked the Scosche kit's ***.
By setting it up with screws (not the sleeve)(ISO install), the trim ring fits flush with the fit kit. It also had a pocket which fit below it. There are no gaps and the whole thing looks really good. If you want a kit I'd definitely recommend the Metra.
I like Icemark's cup holder idea even better though. That's awesome!

These are the only pics I really have of my install. They might be hard to make out but it's the best I've got.

I made my own, out of 5mm lexan/polycarbonate and gave it a flat black spray.
Its not really that hard just unbolt the stock radioplate, lay the clear lexan over the gap and plot in where the holes are supposed to be.

Sorry guys i should have specified:
I REFUSE TO USE THE CAGE!!! Mounting a deck with a cage not only looks ugly as crap, its also flimsy, and very easy to steal.
BTW, I had the same kit as the one above this post... I don't like it. I need something more sturdy, and something that holds the deck up.

yeah, it is a Miata ****. The Miata uses the same screw pattern as the S5 and S6 shifter rods
I have a S5 shifter rod [on my S4'vert] that I cut down about 1/2 inch. I used a couple of aftermarket ***** for a while, but ended up liking the weighted feel of a Miata ****.
I had the wood covered handbrake from a 95 Merlot M type Miata, but it looked funky with the black Miata shift **** so I swapped it back out.
Got the Miata shift **** for $5 on ebay.
You can see the carpet pulled up in that picture too, on the pass side. I have been trying to fix one guys N338 ECU for him as well as try a couple of chips that were supposed to work on S4 ECUs, but none of them have worked for crap.
