Where to Mount Commander Mount and Other Stuff

Ok, so I just got one of those nifty PFC Commander mounts and I really don't want to screw into the side of my centerconsole to mount it...So I was in the car lastnight exploring every possible spot to mount the thing and came up blank...Even it it means modifying the mount itself...Not only that, I am getting the Blitz SBC-ID and I dont' know where I am going to put that...Damnit...where are you guys mounting all your stuff?

I even thought about dimantling the commander and taking out the buttons and somehow modifying the din cover and mounting the display and buttons in that....has anyone done that?

Gime some ideas...puhleeeeeezzeee

I thinking about mounting something inside the driver's door storage bin, but I haven't figured out how I'm going to run the wires yet. Suggestions anyone?

I've seen it placed in a modified dc adapter plugged into the cig lighter. That location seemed to work well.

I've also seen Crispy's setup on his website -- that also looks like it would work very well. Check it out here:

http://reganrotaryracing.tripod.com/momo.htm (Scroll down 1/2 way)

I'm in your same boat. I refuse to damage my interior in any way (I'm using tri-pod center speaker gauge mount for that reason) and I will be getting a PFC soon.

Yeah, seen the cigarette lighter / cellphone holder...That's great except I run a radar detector so I need my cig lighter to power it up.

That mount on Crispy's site is nice...the 94-95 (I have a 94) glove box is a bit different and I just placed it beside it and it looked like crap and I didn't want to put holes in the plastic/leather...

I think this was discussed before, as I am going through the same thing. I sat in the car for an hour just trying to see where the commander would look good and be functional.

on Scuderia's site someone in the past posted this link...

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/p...C_install.html

scroll to the bottom.

What I was thinking about doing was to mount just the screen with a mini hood on the A pillar, and have the buttons mounted on a flip plate in the drivers storage bin. That way I can flip open the bin and change settings, then flip the flip plate that has the buttons attached to have access to the bin.

The guys at Gotham racing tell me they can do anything with the mount. They stated that they did a custom job for someone by placing the LCD in the drivers side visor....That wouldn't help me much I don't think....

the din slot mount you guys are talking about is sled driver's mount. check it out here:http://home.attbi.com/~elkozak/MainPage.html.

i also thought about taking the commander apart and mounting it in the sun visor.... out of sight until you need to adjust or change something.

i'm going to look into combining sled driver's mount with the gotham racing/cavellm mount. i aslo have a 94, and i didn't like how you could see where you drilled into the center console.

i recall seeing someone re-locating the a/c controls to the headliner in the interior forum. maybe it would be possible to do the same with just the commander display and the nav. buttons?

Jim,

can you check that url??? The link doesn't work

about the visor, I check the readings too much to have it hidden in the visor. I would prefer it in some line of site that I could glance at it...

You know, of all the mounts of this type this one is probably the nicest....however, I am thinking of something a little more blendinish (is that a word? if not I just created one )

you can always run an extra power line somewhere else. i think it's a great location since you can see it as you glance at the tach/speedo. i other location you have to turn your head too much.
