Ok guys, so far so good. I'm about to see what kind of price break we can get based on the # of units we sell, but before proceeding, I thought we'd try what we did a few years ago... With RaceLogic (esp. w/ all the add-on units), the price is expensive any way you cut it. So the more ppl we get on board, the cheaper each unit is for us. So I'd like to see if any of you guys on the Supra boards and Bimmer boards would like to spread the word to see if they'd like to join the GB too. Again, the larger the # of participants in this GB, the bigger the price break. Only reason I'm hesitant to post on those forums (both of which I'm on) is b/c they have strict requirements about vendors posting etc...I'm sure you guys know the deal ;) So yea, lets see if we can get the word out to those (and/or any other car forums you guys think would be up for joining), and hopefully we can turn this into a VERY successful GB at the lowest individual unit price possible! :)

Thanks,
~Ramy

PS: Just so we don't get redundant posts on other forums, if you're gonna post on a specific forum, plz post here which forum you're gonna post in. That way we'll know which forum is already covered, and which forums we still need to cover.

I like big group buys, but I hope this doesn't get dragged out. For my own plans, I'm looking at late September as a point where I'd like to be installing this. Ramy, you should give us an idea of when you expect to close the GB.

That said, I just crossposted this thread at the V8 RX7 forum.

I figure we can close it say, the 1st week of September? That'll give us 2 - 3 weeks of wiggle room to get the units and get 'em shipped out to the individual customers. Meanwhile, I've already initiated communication w/ RaceLogic, and I'll be keeping 'em updated as we proceed of the # of orders we're looking at vs. their stock list, etc. Sound good?

Thanks,
~Ramy

PS: I emailed ya about a gauge face a while back but never heard back from ya...didja get the email by any chance?

rxcited2 08-14-07 10:19 PM

Ramy -- good to know you are communicating with Race Logic. How about getting them to address the various questions that have come up on this thread? Or should we do this ourselves?

Basically many (if not most) of us are purchasing this for a two rotor or three rotor motor. So it would be good to know which models are suitable for these applications. Guys getting on the list for their piston motors I assume can pick the Race Logic models appropriately.

reboot 08-15-07 03:22 AM

help me check if they have one for 4cyl? i emailed them twice with no response.

rxcited2 08-15-07 08:33 AM

4 Cylinders

reboot - I am no RL expert, but my understanding is that it is a question if there are enough channels available to handle your quantity of injectors and how the unit cuts the signals in a progressively heavy way, alternating across the cylinders. I believe that any of the units (6, 8, or 12) will work with 4 cylinders. Best to confirm directly with RL to make sure. I believe this also to be true with two rotors (like 6 cylinders), but I don't have a guess for three rotors (like 9 cylinders). Try calling them.

FDNewbie 08-15-07 10:37 AM

I've already spoken w/ them, and I'm very confident that they do support 3-rotor applications based on my conversation w/ a few fellow forum members that are running RaceLogic on their 3-rotors, and have conversed w/ RaceLogic about it previously. But again, I'm waiting to hear back the official word from 'em.

Two-rotors are not a problem. Readily available.

Piston motors, if you specify your application, I'm sure they will provide me w/ the correct unit, or ask me for further info as needed. I've already asked 'em what info they need, so we'll see what they say.

For the 4-bangers, I've already included that in today's inquiry.

Lastly, my target # for the maximal discount is 20 units (based on their price breakdown). So lets keep on with it! :)

Thanks,
~Ramy

FDNewbie 08-15-07 11:59 AM

Mini update:

1) Still awaiting a response re: the 3-rotor units

2) 2-rotors are a go

3) For piston motors, all I need is the # of cylinders

4) For 4-bangers, you'll be using the 6 cylinder box and just 4 connectors. So please note it as such when posting your order on the thread.

Thanks,
~Ramy

I'm pretty sure everyone is getting the ABS version unless you don't have ABS and specify that you need wheel speed sensors.

ABS vs. non-ABS

If you go look at their price list, you can buy a set of wheel speed sensors along with the ABS version of the unit, nothing stopping you. Yeah, one would hope we'll get the right stuff, but since they do offer ABS and non-ABS versions, it makes sense to be explicit.

hyperion 08-17-07 07:10 PM

Okay, so to be clear, ABS version means you do NOT need wheel sensors (i.e., you're going to re-use the factory ABS sensors), right?

I'm kinda with Juiceh here, but maybe I don't understand what rxcited is saying...

if you have a working ABS system in your car, you do NOT need wheel speed sensors, ABS or not.

hope that clears it out a bit.

That clears up the confusion about the wheel sensors, but should we request the ABS version or not? I'm assuming if we have ABS installed in our vehicle we should request the ABS version of this unit.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.....

hyperion 08-18-07 12:15 PM

Okay, so just about everyone is needing the ABS version, then?

stickmantijuana, I sure can. Right now the only thing I'm waiting for is confirmation from RL UK about the 3-rotor units, that's all. Once I hear that, we're good to go.

Oh and we actually have 17, as I'll be getting a unit as well. If we can muster up 3 more ppl (20 total), we get an additional price break though!

Thanks,
~Ramy

i can possibly be your 18th person, but would like an idea what the ballpark price is :) [i tried scanning the thread, might have overlooked the post on that?]

Hi Riccardo,

I can't wait. Question is, is yours a RHD or LHD vehicle? We know it works and is available for JDM cars (RHD). But it seems that Ramy can't be sure this will be totally plug and play in our older LHD USDM cars.

James, I think you got a bit confused. This is the Racelogic thread, not the keyless entry thread :p:

Does any1 know what the price will be???

Max_Spd 09-02-07 08:04 AM

Depending on price i may be down for this as well!!!

rxcited2 09-02-07 05:52 PM

I'll wager a small fortune that Ramy will not quote a price until it is all worked out with Race Logic. The more people on the GB, the better the price he can negotiate. But then he's got to handle and ship out the individual units to the GB participants and make some profit.

You guys have to be realistic. If you go to the Race Logic website (http://www.racelogic.co.uk/?show=Tra...-Retail_Prices) and you throw all the options on there, the retail price is very high. For estimation purposes, add up your selection in pounds, multiply by a factor of two (two USD per UK pound approximately) to convert to retail US dollars, then you have to guess how much of a deal Ramy will be able to come up with for us. For example, if we end up with a 20% discount off retail, then multiply the USD by a factor of 0.8. Say you get traction control, launch control, full throttle shift, data logging, digital adjuster, ABS version. This looks like 850 + 100 UK pounds. So 950 * 2 * .8 = $1500 USD, assuming 20% off retail price.

While I am sure Ramy will offer a much better price for us than retail, and I "hope" it is even better (not worse) than 20% off retail, this is not going to be free! You will be paying for and receiving brand new fresh merchandise from a reputable and reliable vendor. So be realistic, but also aware that the more people on the GB, the lower the price should be.

reboot 09-03-07 02:43 PM

I don't think hes making any money off this. I was under the impression that he step in to work on this groupbuy because he wanted to buy some for himself anyways. At least thats what I saw on the first page of this thread. Usually during groupbuy's the person setting it up is paying the same amount because we're all in it together to get the same savings.

Prometheus 09-03-07 04:24 PM

I know this seems stupid, but I read over this thread and the links provided.

It states that the system works by utilizing "fuel cut"

Could this be a dangerous combination with turbo rotary engines, I mean could this cause problems like fuel starve or detonation?

Interest pending reply.

CrackHeadMel 09-03-07 05:01 PM

as long as you cut enough fuel that the engine cannot complete the combustion cycle, you are fine, being this is a very well known product, i wouldnt worry

Prometheus 09-03-07 05:42 PM

no offense, but your statement is not based off of any facts or personal experience.

Race Logic is a very well known product designed for piston engines, nowhere in their publications do they directly endorse their product specifically for rotary engines. especially a turbo rotary.

what I am afraid of is that these things could pop a rotary engine, and race logic could totally dismiss the entire rotary community, due to the fact that we used a product that was not designed for our specific application.

I'm just trying to be as aware as possible, these cars/ engines are not cheap, so I just want to ask the questions that I think could save a lot of heartache.

If Ramy might be able to directly contact a race logic Rep. or if someone has personal experience, I'm sure that would open up the GB to a lot of skeptics (like myself)

I love the idea of this product, but sometimes there is a price to be payed for having a different form of engine. one that may not safely be able to use the same accessories as a piston engine.

Please feel free to argue your point, I mean no offense.

Max_Spd 09-03-07 06:05 PM

Yeah...I came across this argument before...a while back...something about the option of a fuel cut and or ignition cut was in the works...or something like that...but something tells me this system could technically be reworked/rewired to cut ignition rather then fuel...on our cars at least!!!

I don't want to come across as being harsh, but...

- This is a GB thread. Not a discussion thread. I try and keep an open mind and let some stuff slide, but I don't have any intention of letting the thread lose focus.

- The issue you raised has been addressed 1001 times. Search on the forums for RaceLogic. CrackHeadMel was right on the money. It cuts enough fuel to the point that combustion is simply not possible. This isn't a piston vs. rotary thing. It's pure chemistry. There comes a point where you run so lean that combustion is simply not possible. That's what the system employs.

- Racelogic has been used on rotaries for YEARS now. They have a two-rotor specific application, and I'm pretty sure they have a three-rotor application as of late as well. In fact, there was a GB of these several years ago, and a good number of FDs have been running them for quite some time. Most of them, however, are hardcore racers not hardcore typers ;) That's why you really gotta search to find their posts and feedback.

Max_Spd, lets not speculate. Spark cut is very crude and has it's major drawbacks. That's why they discontinued it. Search on that as well. It's been discussed. It's on their main site too, last I checked.

Lastly, I'd NEVER sell a product I can't stand behind 100%. Take that for what it's worth, but to most ppl, that means that you can trust the quality and function of what I sell absolutely, as otherwise I wouldn't sell it - regardless of the potential profit behind it.

So in short, RaceLogic has been used on rotaries for years, lots of 13Bs, a few 20Bs, and there's more than adequate explanation and experience w/ it on the forum as well as on the track. I'd appreciate it if everyone makes every effort to ensure they do enough adequate searching prior to posting.

Thanks,
~Ramy
