Taking a trip to Japan, any nice places to visit?
I'll be in Tokyo and Nagoya for almost 2 weeks in August and I need some suggestions on where to go. I wont be doing the stereotypical "lets go to JDM shops!" thing this time around since I'm visiting a good friend of mine. She's into FDs n stuff like that but I havent seen her in a while and junkyard hunting is not my idea of a date.
Can any of you recommend some nice places to go with a girl? Our hotels are in Akasaka and in Nagoya. So anything thats a reasonable distance by Train is fine with me. I'm going to sneak in some car stuff because I want to visit the history garage in Toyota's Mega Web
Any help is apreciated. thanks

buy a lonely planet guide and start reading, think about getting a japan rail pass for the duration, hakone, (onsens), izu, (beaches) and fuji, (climbing) are between tokyo and nagoya so will be easy to access

I would say go skiing... except it's summer.
Definately go to hakone. It's decent as a tourist spot, and also has lots of touge
Stay in a hot springs resort...
Buy some airsoft guns too :p (the cheapest shop in the Tokyo area is Echigoya in Akihabara)
Also, Fuji is IN Hakone, soo...

I couldn't agree with Eric E more IRT to the Rail Pass. The JR railpass is a "MUST HAVE" when vacationing in Japan. It reduces your cost by so much! You have access to all of the trains except the Nozomi (fastest bullet train). There are tons of places that are very cool to visit in Japan. It just depends on how much you want to travel.
Personally, I prefer Kyoto and Nara, as there is so much history there. Also, Osaka is a great party town and lots to do there.
Get a tourist guide and do some reading. Also, check out Japanzine, as they have some interesting gouge.
Have fun...

Sorry guys but I forgot about this thread :P
Thanks for the input. Were going to visit some of the places you guys recommended. Too bad August is the hottest month over there. Maybe next time I'll go when its cooler and less humid. Im sure I'll have a great time and if I get any pictures worth sharing, I'll post them up. Thanks guys.
